Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 20) {قَالَ فَعَلْتُهَاۤ اِذًا وَّ اَنَا مِنَ الضَّآلِّيْنَ : ’’ اَنَا مِنَ الضَّآلِّيْنَ ‘‘} "At that time, I was among those who were astray." The word "dalalah" does not always mean misguidance; rather, in the Arabic language, it is also used in the sense of unfamiliarity, ignorance, mistake, and forgetfulness, etc. If we look at the incident of the killing of the Copt, here its meaning can only be ignorance, mistake, or forgetfulness, because neither was it his intention to kill him, nor did he have any idea that a single punch would end his life. Musa (peace be upon him) first responded to the accusation with which he (Pharaoh) sought to prove him a criminal, because if the crime was proven, he would have been liable for retribution. Thus, he replied to the threat without any fear and with great courage, saying, yes, I did that act, but I did not do it intentionally at that time, nor was it my intention to kill him. How could I have known that a single punch would take his life? Does death ever occur from a single punch? This act was not done deliberately by me, but by mistake and forgetfulness. And in which law is an act done by mistake considered a crime?

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

20-1. That is, this was not an intentional killing, but rather it was just a punch that I struck him with, which caused his death. Besides, this incident also occurred before prophethood, at a time when I had not yet been given this light of knowledge.
