وَلَهُمْ عَلَىَّ ذَنۢبٌ فَأَخَافُ أَن يَقْتُلُونِ ﴿14﴾
"And they have a charge of crime against me, and I fear they will kill me."

(Ayah 14) {وَ لَهُمْ عَلَيَّ ذَنْۢبٌ …:} That is, one of their men was killed by me, which according to them is my crime, therefore I fear that they will kill me. The details of this incident are coming in Surah Al-Qasas (15). In brief, Musa (peace be upon him) saw a Copt fighting with an Israelite, so he struck the Copt with his fist, which caused the Copt's death. Then, when Musa (peace be upon him) learned that Pharaoh and his people had been informed of this incident and were consulting to take revenge, he left Egypt for Madyan. 14-1. This is a reference to the killing that happened unintentionally by Musa (علیہ السلام), and the slain person was a Copt, that is, from the people of Pharaoh. Therefore, Pharaoh wanted to kill Musa (علیہ السلام) in retaliation, and upon learning of this, Musa (علیہ السلام) left Egypt for Madyan. Although several years had passed since this incident, there was indeed a possibility that by going to Pharaoh, he might try to capture Musa (علیہ السلام) for this crime and sentence him to death. Therefore, this fear was not without reason.

And I have a crime against them, so I fear that they may kill me [10].

[10] When Allah Almighty granted prophethood to Musa (Moses) ؑ upon his return from Madyan, He also commanded him that he must go to Pharaoh and the people of Pharaoh, who had become notorious for their oppression, and fulfill the duty of delivering the message. At this, many incidents from his past life came before the eyes of Musa ؑ, and various dangers began to appear before him. Foremost among them was the thought: what importance would Pharaoh give to my call to the truth, when I am a member of the very nation he has enslaved and keeps thoroughly subdued? Moreover, I was raised in his household. Besides this, I am also considered a criminal by them. Keeping all these things in mind, when he imagined delivering Allah’s message to Pharaoh, he felt a kind of constriction in his chest. Thus, he presented these concerns before Allah, but there was no question of refusal. And this is the hallmark of the resolute Prophets: they are such obedient servants of Allah that they do not hesitate to deliver Allah’s message, even at the risk of their own lives. However, he did make this request: that his brother Harun (Aaron) should also be granted prophethood and sent with him, so that he could be his helper and supporter in this task, and at least, instead of one, there would be two of them, who could console and support each other. Furthermore, Musa ؑ said that his own speech was not fluent, whereas his brother Harun was eloquent in speech.
