Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 138,137){ اِنْ هٰذَاۤ اِلَّا خُلُقُ الْاَوَّلِيْنَ …:} That is, this idol worship, building memorials and grand structures, and treating our opponents in this manner is not just our way, but this is exactly what our forefathers have always done. Their religion was also this, and their civilization too; neither did any punishment come upon them, nor will it come upon us. Another meaning of the verse could be that these words of admonition you are saying to us are nothing new; there have been such eccentric people before who used to say such things. They have no effect on us, nor will any punishment come upon us.

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

1. That is, these are the same things that people have been saying before as well, or it means that the religion and customs and traditions upon which we are established are the same as those upon which our forefathers adhered; the meaning in both cases is that we cannot abandon the ancestral religion.

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

137. Such things have always been said [86] in the past.

[86] In response to this admonition, this rebellious nation said that we have also been hearing such things. Some people used to claim prophethood and say such things that Allah's punishment would come upon you, and the cycle of life and death has continued before them, continued after them, and will continue in the future as well. Therefore, such admonitions are useless for us. We do not believe in these things.

What is Fundamentalism?

Imam Bukhari has interpreted 'khuluq' (customs) to mean 'deen' (religion) in ﴿خُلُقُ الْأَوَّلِينَ﴾ [بخاري۔ كتاب التفسير۔ زير تفسير روم]
In this regard, it would mean that this is the religion of the old people. The old people used to say such things. But now the era of such old-fashioned people has passed. In the present age, the term "fundamentalist" has been coined for such people. That is, those people who strictly adhere to the teachings of their Prophet in their beliefs and actions, and consider the new enlightenment or new civilization as old ignorance.
