Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 129) {وَ تَتَّخِذُوْنَ مَصَانِعَ …:’’ مَصَانِعَ ‘‘ ’’مَصْنَعٌ‘‘} is the plural of {’’مَصْنَعَةٌ‘‘}. In Mukhtar al-Sihah and Qamus, its meaning is written as large forts, strong palaces, and underground canals. Raghib writes that the meaning of {’’صَنْعٌ‘‘} is to do something in an excellent manner. Grand places are called {’’ مَصَانِعَ ‘‘}. The meaning of {’’ لَعَلَّكُمْ ‘‘ ’’لَعَلَّ‘‘} is "it is hoped, perhaps"; here it conveys the sense of {’’كَأَنَّ‘‘} "as if, like." This is their second action which Hud (peace be upon him) expressed disapproval of; it shows their greed for eternal life and long hopes. That is, your second type of constructions are such that although they are for use, yet to make them grand, decorated, and strong, you spend your wealth, effort, and ability as if you are to live here forever, and you have no concern for any other life besides this.

Ibn Kathir has narrated from Ibn Abi Hatim that Abu al-Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) saw the buildings and plantations made by the Muslims in "Ghuta," so he went to their mosque and called out: "O people of Damascus!" They gathered around him, so he praised Allah, then said: "Do you not feel shame? Do you not feel shame? You are gathering what you do not eat, and building houses in which you do not live, and hoping for what you can never attain. The reality is that many centuries passed before you; those people used to gather, then protect what they gathered, build houses and make them very strong, tie hopes and make them very long, then their hopes deceived them and their group was destroyed, and their dwellings became graves. Remember! The people of 'Ad were owners of horses and camels from Aden to Oman; now who is there to buy their inheritance from me for two dirhams?" Dr. Hikmat bin Bashir said, its chain is Hasan.

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

1. In the same way, they used to build very strong and magnificent residential buildings, as if they would live in those palaces forever.
