وَمَآ أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ ۖ إِنْ أَجْرِىَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ ﴿109﴾

"No reward do I ask of you for it (my Message of Islâmic Monotheism); my reward is only from the Lord of the ‘Âlamîn (mankind, jinn and all that exists).

(Ayah 109) ➊ { وَ مَاۤ اَسْـَٔلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ اَجْرٍ:} The second thing he presented as proof of his prophethood was that those who claim piety and spirituality usually aim to establish their own authority, accumulate wealth, and gain leadership. Behind the sanctity of monasteries and the huts of monks, there is usually the worst kind of greed for wealth hidden, but in conveying Allah’s message, I neither desire any wage or worldly benefit from you nor do I demand anything from you. If you do not even listen to such a selfless well-wisher, then who could be more unfortunate than you? Prophet Nuh (peace be upon him) mentioned this especially because his people had slandered him, claiming that he wanted to gain superiority over his people through prophethood. In Surah Al-Mu’minun it is said: «{ مَا هٰذَاۤ اِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُكُمْ يُرِيْدُ اَنْ يَّتَفَضَّلَ عَلَيْكُمْ }» [ المؤمنون : ۲۴ ] “He is nothing but a man like yourselves who wishes to gain superiority over you.” Just like Prophet Nuh (peace be upon him), the entire life of our Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is also a just witness to this; he too did not leave behind any dinar, dirham, or anything else—whatever he had, he gave in charity. Allah’s messengers are always this selfless, and they continue to declare this as well.

➋ {اِنْ اَجْرِيَ اِلَّا عَلٰى رَبِّ الْعٰلَمِيْنَ:} This also contains an invitation to the belief in the Day of Judgment: that the reward for my striving and effort is only and only upon the Lord of all the worlds, and it is clear that it will be given in full only on the Day of Judgment.

19-1. I do not ask you for any reward for the preaching I am doing to you; rather, its reward is the responsibility of the Lord of the worlds, who will grant it on the Day of Resurrection.

I do not ask you for any reward for this (preaching) [74]; my reward is only with Allah, the Lord of all the worlds.

[74] Another important point is that I am calling you to Allah with complete sincerity and selflessness. I have no personal interest in this, nor do I demand any compensation or reward from you. Whatever I say, I say it with absolute selflessness and for your own good. Yet you have become intent on harming me. In this matter too, you should fear Allah, because the outcome of oppression and injustice has never been good. And you should accept the words of such a selfless and sincere person.
