ٱنظُرْ كَيْفَ ضَرَبُوا۟ لَكَ ٱلْأَمْثَـٰلَ فَضَلُّوا۟ فَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ سَبِيلًا ﴿9﴾
See how they coin similitudes for you, so they have gone astray, and they cannot find a (Right) Path.
ٱنظُرْ unẓur See

ضَرَبُوا۟ ḍarabū they set forth
لَكَ laka for you
ٱلْأَمْثَـٰلَ l-amthāla the similitudes
فَضَلُّوا۟ faḍallū but they have gone astray
فَلَا falā so not
يَسْتَطِيعُونَ yastaṭīʿūna they are able (to find)
سَبِيلًۭا sabīlan a way

(Ayah 9) ➊ { اُنْظُرْ كَيْفَ ضَرَبُوْا لَكَ الْاَمْثَالَ :} See how they have coined examples for you, only so that they may somehow prove you to be a liar.
{ فَضَلُّوْا فَلَا يَسْتَطِيْعُوْنَ سَبِيْلًا :} So they have gone astray, and have strayed in such a way that they cannot find any path, because only he comes to the path whose heart has sincerity and who has merely fallen into misunderstanding; in their hearts, instead of sincerity, there is stubbornness and obstinacy. 9-1. That is, O Prophet! They make such statements and slander about you; sometimes they call you a sorcerer, sometimes bewitched and insane, and sometimes a liar and a poet. Whereas all these statements are false, and whoever possesses even a little bit of intellect and understanding knows their falsity. Thus, by making such statements, they themselves become distant from the path of guidance; how can they possibly attain the straight path?

O Prophet! See how they set forth examples [14] for you. They have gone so far astray that they cannot find the (right) way.

The disbelievers could not even decide what accusation to make against you.

That is, sometimes they say that this person has fabricated a lie against Allah when he claims that revelation is sent down to him from Allah. Sometimes they say that he has authored this Quran himself, although he takes help from others in this matter. Sometimes they call you a soothsayer, sometimes a poet, sometimes a sorcerer, a magician, and sometimes bewitched. Then somewhere they say that he should have been an angel. Sometimes they say that if he was a human, at least an angel should have accompanied him. Sometimes they say that this Prophet should have possessed abundant wealth and riches. All these things are, in reality, just excuses for not accepting the call to truth. Stubbornness and prejudice have blinded them and compelled them to make such absurd statements. The reality of their words is nothing more than “a bad habit finds many excuses.” However, from such stubborn statements of theirs, it certainly becomes clear that they will not accept the call to truth at any cost. And their demands and objections are merely out of mischief and to cause annoyance.
