Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 54) ➊ {وَهُوَالَّذِيْخَلَقَمِنَالْمَآءِبَشَرًا … : } This is the fifth category of the evidences of Tawheed. In this too, Allah’s oneness, His perfect power, and His favors upon man are all mentioned. The word {’’ بَشَرًا ‘‘} is from {’’اَلْبَشَرَةُ‘‘} (skin, outer layer). The bodies of all other animals are covered with hair or feathers, etc., whereas the skin of humans is clear of this, so he is called “Bashar.” In the previous verse, as evidence of being the sole Creator, Owner, and Deity, the power to prevent the two waters from mixing was mentioned, and in this verse, the mixing of them is mentioned. It is said: «{ اِنَّاخَلَقْنَاالْاِنْسَانَمِنْنُّطْفَةٍاَمْشَاجٍ }»[ الدھر : ۲ ] “Indeed, We created man from a mixed drop.” So that no one thinks that everything in the universe is happening automatically according to the nature of each thing. No! This is the work of that Mighty Owner and Controller; if He wills, He prevents the seas from mixing, and if He wills, He mixes the drops together and shapes and fashions upon water.
➋ { فَجَعَلَهٗنَسَبًاوَّصِهْرًا :} That is, was it any less a marvel in itself that He creates such an amazing creature as man from a humble drop, and in addition to this, He did not make just one specimen of man, but two distinct types (female and male), as He said: «{ فَجَعَلَمِنْهُالزَّوْجَيْنِالذَّكَرَوَالْاُنْثٰى }»[ القیامۃ : ۳۹ ] “Then He made from it two kinds, male and female.” Then whether male or female, all are attributed to their fathers and forefathers, so-and-so son of so-and-so, and so-and-so daughter of so-and-so. When a man and woman marry, many in-law relationships are formed between them; this entire spread of family clans and nations comes into existence from a single drop of semen. See the first verse of Surah An-Nisa and Surah Al-Hujurat (13).
➌ { وَكَانَرَبُّكَقَدِيْرًا :} All these are marvels of Allah’s power, because your Lord has always been exceedingly Powerful. The concept of eternality is indicated by {’’ كَانَ ‘‘}.

54-1. By lineage is meant the relationships that are from the father's or mother's side, and by "sihra" is meant the kinship that is established after marriage from the wife's side, which in our language is called in-law relationships. The details of both these relationships have been explained in verse (4:22-23) . Foster relationships, according to hadith, are included among the lineage relationships. As it is stated: یحرم من الرضاع ما یحرم من النسب۔ البخاری ومسلم۔

And He it is Who created man from water (a drop of fluid), then made for him bonds of lineage and marriage [67], and your Lord is All-Powerful.
[67] The Creation of Man and Woman from a Drop of Fluid, and Allah’s Astonishing Decree in Their Physical Structure and Function:
That is, is it any less than a marvel of Allah’s power that He created a being possessing such astonishing machinery as the human, from a single drop of water? Furthermore, the child that is born is then divided into different types. Sometimes a boy is born, and sometimes a girl. Both are equal in terms of being human, but in their physical structure and characteristics, they differ from each other in many aspects. However, despite this difference, both together fulfill the same purpose, which is the continuation of the human race. From the union of these two types, thousands of men and women are born in the world. Then, based on this difference, two kinds of relationships are formed. One is where women come as daughters-in-law, and this is a blood relationship, such as son, grandson, great-grandson, etc. The other is where our daughters, granddaughters, etc., go as daughters-in-law, and these are in-law relationships. Then, from the mutual relations of these two types of relationships, the whole society is connected, and a similar civilization comes into existence. When a child is born, the only difference in the physical structure of a boy and a girl is in their private parts, by which we distinguish whether the newborn is a boy or a girl. Then, some differences become apparent at puberty, such as a boy experiencing nocturnal emission and the growth of beard and mustache hair, and girls beginning menstruation and the development of breasts. Then, there are some matters related to the establishment of pregnancy, such as the flow of milk in a woman’s breasts, because until pregnancy is established, milk is not produced. Then, upon the decline of youth, menstruation in women ceases on its own, and the production of semen in men also stops on its own, and the sexual desires of both begin to subside, and these are such fixed laws of nature that are never violated. Reflecting on these matters, one cannot help but say that Allah has full power over whatever function He intends for a thing to perform.
