Translation by Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan & Dr. Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali
We have indeed sent down (in this Qur’ân) manifest Ayât (proofs, evidence, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, lawful and unlawful things, and the set boundaries of Islâmic religion, etc. that make things clear showing the Right Path of Allâh). And Allâh guides whom He wills to the Straight Path (i.e. to Allâh’s religion of Islâmic Monotheism).

(Ayah 46) ➊ { لَقَدْاَنْزَلْنَاۤاٰيٰتٍمُّبَيِّنٰتٍ :} See the commentary of verse (34) of this Surah. ➋ { وَاللّٰهُيَهْدِيْمَنْيَّشَآءُ :} See the commentary of verse (35) of this Surah. ➌ This verse is a prelude to the upcoming verses, in which the hypocrites are mentioned, stating that indeed We have sent down great verses that make everything clear, but giving guidance to the straight path through them is only the work of Allah Almighty. Ahead, some people are mentioned whom Allah does not will to guide.

46-1 Allah Almighty grants him a sound vision and a truthful heart, through which the path of guidance opens up for him. By "Sirat al-Mustaqim" is meant this very path of guidance in which there is no crookedness; by adopting it, a person reaches his intended destination, Paradise.

46. We have sent down clear verses that explain the truth, and Allah guides to the straight [74] path whom He wills.
[74] That is, all the signs mentioned above can provide those who reflect and ponder with a clear recognition of Allah Almighty, and how can guidance be granted to one who does not pay any attention to these matters?
