Allâh causes the night and the day to succeed each other (i.e. if the day is gone, the night comes, and if the night is gone, the day comes, and so on). Truly, in this is indeed a lesson for those who have insight.

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 44){ يُقَلِّبُ اللّٰهُ الَّيْلَ وَ النَّهَارَ …:} This is the third proof that the Owner and Controller of this universe is Allah alone, without any partner, and the light of His guidance is spread everywhere in the heavens and the earth. Thus, it is said: Allah alternates the night and the day; neither is it always day nor always night. See Qasas (71 to 73). Then sometimes the night is short and sometimes the day. See Luqman (29). It should be clear that all the means of survival on earth exist due to this alternation of night and day. If it were always night or always day, nothing could be produced. This entire system is made by Allah, the Most Glorified and Exalted. Whoever speaks ill of the night, day, or this system, in reality, speaks ill of Allah. Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: [ قَالَ اللّٰهُ تَبَارَكَ وَ تَعَالٰي يُؤْذِيْنِي ابْنُ آدَمَ، يَقُوْلُ يَا خَيْبَةَ الدَّهْرِ! فَلَا يَقُوْلَنَّ أَحَدُكُمْ يَا خَيْبَةَ الدَّهْرِ! فَإِنِّيْ أَنَا الدَّهْرُ، أُقَلِّبُ لَيْلَهُ وَ نَهَارَهُ، فَإِذَا شِئْتُ قَبَضْتُهُمَا ] [ مسلم، الألفاظ من الأدب وغیرھا، باب النہي عن سب الدھر : 2246/3 ] "Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, says: The son of Adam hurts Me; he says, 'Woe to time!' So none of you should ever say, 'Woe to time!' because I am time; I alternate the night and the day, and when I wish, I will seize them both."

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

44-1 That is, sometimes the days are long, the nights are short, and sometimes the opposite. Or sometimes He changes the light of the day with the darkness of clouds, and the darkness of the night with the light of the moon.

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

44. It is Allah Who alternates the night and the day. Surely, in these signs there is a lesson [72] for those who have insight.

The Alternation of Night and Day and the Change of Seasons:

The alternation of night and day is also one of the greatest signs of the recognition of Allah, which Allah has mentioned at many places in the Noble Quran. Allah Almighty has created such a coordinated system of the movement of celestial bodies that night and day keep coming alternately. At one place, nights are increasing at a particular time, while at another place, at the same time, they are decreasing. Then, through this very system, the seasons keep changing at every place, which proves helpful in the ripening of various kinds of crops and plants. There is a deep connection between the ripening of crops and the seasons. In short, this system of Allah Almighty is so astonishing and full of benefits that the more one reflects upon it, the more the greatness and majesty of Allah settle in the heart of a person. According to the current theory, all these results are achieved due to the axial rotation of the earth and its annual revolution around the sun. It is worth pondering: who is that Being who has compelled such a massive body as the earth to keep rotating around the sun on its axis at an angle of six and a half degrees at a speed of sixty-six thousand six hundred miles per hour, and to keep rotating continuously, never allowing the slightest deviation in this rotation? Moreover, He is constantly keeping a strict watch over it. ﴿فَاعْتَبِرُوْا يٰٓاُولِي الْاَبْصَارِ﴾
