Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 10){ وَلَوْلَافَضْلُاللّٰهِعَلَيْكُمْوَرَحْمَتُهٗ … :} "If it were not for Allah's favor upon you and His mercy..." The answer to this "if" is omitted, meaning "then your condition would be such that it is difficult to describe," so this answer has been omitted. Some details of this are as follows: If Allah had not revealed the ruling of li'an, then if a husband saw his wife in the act of adultery, his case would not be like that of other people, regarding whom the command is that if they see someone committing adultery and cannot bring four witnesses, then they should remain silent, because they have no personal involvement in it and they are not more protective than Allah. In contrast, if the husband remains silent, he would have to remain silent his whole life with a burning heart and accept someone else's child as his own. If he divorces, it is a loss for him, and if he accuses, he must bring four witnesses, and if he cannot, which apparently is not possible, then he would suffer the punishment for slander. On the other hand, if the wife's adultery was proven merely by the husband's accusation or oaths, it would be a great hardship for the woman, because it is possible she is truthful. Similarly, if the woman was acquitted due to her oaths, then the man would be liable for the hadd of qadhf (slander), even though it is possible he is the truthful one. Therefore, the ruling of li'an is Allah's special favor and His mercy, and He has given this ruling because of being {’’ تَوَّابٌ ‘‘} and {’’ حَكِيْمٌ ‘‘}, so that whichever party among the husband and wife is truthful may be saved from punishment without cause, and the one who is lying may be covered in this world, and perhaps he may benefit from the respite and, due to Allah's attribute of being the Acceptor of Repentance, may repent and attain the good fortune of having his repentance accepted.
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan — Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
10-1. So, the liar among you would have immediately received Allah’s punishment. But since He is the Lord and also Wise, firstly, He has concealed (the sin), so that if someone sincerely repents afterwards, He will cover him with His mercy. And He is also Wise, for by stating the issue of li‘an, He has provided a very reasonable and easy solution for honorable men.
Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran — Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani
Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
10. And if it were not for the grace of Allah and His mercy upon you (O believers), (the matter would have become very difficult for you). And Allah is the Accepter of Repentance [11] and Wise, (Who has prescribed this rule of pardon).
[11] Li'an is the Solution to Many Complex Issues:
That is, if Allah had not revealed the command of li'an, you could have faced many kinds of difficulties. For example, if a person himself sees his wife involved in adultery, what should he do? If he goes to find witnesses, by the time the witnesses arrive, the matter is over. And if he speaks without witnesses, he is subjected to the punishment of qazf (false accusation). If he remains silent, silence can be adopted in the case of others, but how can he swallow this bitter pill in the case of his own wife? If, in anger, he kills his wife, then he himself is killed in retaliation (qisas). And if he divorces her, then he himself suffers loss, and neither the wife nor her lover receives any physical or moral punishment. In fact, this divorce may even prove to be a cause of happiness for both the adulterer and the adulteress. And if, hypothetically, he does swallow the bitter pill and remains patient, then the burden of raising an illegitimate child falls upon him, who will later become his heir as well. These and many other such difficulties were those for which you had no solution. Allah revealed the command of li'an and resolved all these complexities. Then, in the law of li'an, both parties have been kept on an equal footing. Therefore, the reality is that despite both taking oaths, one of them is definitely truthful and the other is lying. And these very matters are a powerful proof of Allah's wisdom.
