Is Prosperity a Sign of Allah’s Pleasure?

Worldly and ignorant people generally think that prosperity is a sign of Allah’s pleasure, and poverty or distress is a sign of Allah’s displeasure. Whereas, often the matter is the opposite. The main reason for the arrogance of the influential people is this very notion; they see that despite denying the prophets and committing injustices against the believers, nothing happens to them, so they become even more firm in this belief. Now, the period of trial from Allah comes upon them in such a way that even more divine favors begin to rain down upon them. However, the reality of these favors is just like a dying lamp that flares up brightly once before it goes out. But they do not understand this reality, that the abundance of wealth and blessings is not due to Allah’s pleasure, but rather because of respite and gradual entrapment. And the more they are given respite, the more the measure of their wretchedness is being filled.
