Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 56,55) ➊ {اَيَحْسَبُوْنَ اَنَّمَا نُمِدُّهُمْ بِهٖ …: ’’ اَنَّمَا ‘‘} here is not a compound word, rather {’’أَنَّ‘‘} and {’’مَا‘‘} (meaning {اَلَّذِيْ}) are two separate words; in the script of the Qur’an, they have been written together. The meaning is “those things which.”
➋ The reason every group is very pleased with its own condition is because of the deception they are under, thinking that prosperity and abundance of wealth and children are signs of Allah’s pleasure. Thus, the disbelievers used to say that we have more wealth and children and we will never be punished. See Surah Saba (35) and Kahf (34 to 36). Therefore, Allah Almighty refuted this for the warning of the Muslims.
{ بَلْ لَّا يَشْعُرُوْنَ:} means that their assumption is not correct; rather, the reality is that they have no awareness that this abundance of wealth and children is to give them respite and to complete the proof against them, so that the more they are given time, the more their sins accumulate, and then they are seized in full measure. The scholars say that whoever disobeys Allah and does not feel any decrease in the blessings given by Allah, he should be concerned that the rope from Allah is being extended for him.
