And verily this your religion (of Islâmic Monotheism) is one religion, and I am your Lord, so fear (keep your duty to) Me.

1. By اُمَّۃ is meant the religion, and being one means that all the prophets presented the invitation to worship only one Allah. But people abandoned the religion of Tawheed and split into separate sects, and every group is pleased with its own belief and practice, no matter how far it is from the truth.

And indeed, this community of yours is one single [56] community, and I am your Lord, so fear Me alone.
[56] The Meaning of "One Ummah":
By "ummah" is meant a group that is united in belief and thought. And here, "your ummah" can also refer to the group of prophets and messengers, as well as those who believed in them. And this entire group was united in creed. That is, the fundamental teachings and core beliefs of all of them were the same, and they are as follows: (1) Allah Almighty alone is the Creator and Owner of everything, therefore He alone deserves to be worshipped, and no one else should be associated with Him in His essence, attributes, or acts of worship. (2) This world is a place of trial. After death, every human will be resurrected and will have to present himself before Allah. He will be questioned about the deeds he performed in the world. Then everyone will be given full recompense for his good or bad deeds. Therefore, you should fear only Me. (3) Complete abstinence from earning through unlawful means, that is, under no circumstances should the rights or property of others be usurped. (4) Righteous deeds should be performed. These four matters are of a fundamental nature, and every prophet was commanded regarding them, and these very things are called "deen" (religion). As for the subsidiary rulings, especially those related to point number 3, there have been differences in the laws of the prophets regarding them.
