مَا تَسْبِقُ مِنْ أُمَّةٍ أَجَلَهَا وَمَا يَسْتَـْٔخِرُونَ ﴿43﴾

(Ayah 43){ مَا تَسْبِقُ مِنْ اُمَّةٍ اَجَلَهَا … :} That is, for any nation, the term of life that Allah has fixed does not decrease nor increase in this world. Tabari said: "This is a warning for the polytheists of our Prophet Muhammad's (peace be upon him) nation, and to inform them that despite their disbelief, polytheism, and denial of the Messenger, the respite being given to them is so that they may reach their appointed term, then Allah's punishment will seize them, just as it happened with the previous nations."
