(Ayah 22) ➊ { كُلَّمَاۤ اَرَادُوْۤا اَنْ يَّخْرُجُوْا مِنْهَا …:} This means that when they rise up with the flame of fire and wish to escape from the intense suffocation of Hell, then as the flame of fire goes down, they too will go down again. This is the meaning because the people of Hell will be bound and strung together in chains; how can they themselves intend to escape? It is said: «{ وَ تَرَى الْمُجْرِمِيْنَ يَوْمَىِٕذٍ مُّقَرَّنِيْنَ فِي الْاَصْفَادِ [ إبراھیم : ۴۹ ] "And you will see the criminals that Day bound together in chains." And it is said: «{ ثُمَّ فِيْ سِلْسِلَةٍ ذَرْعُهَا سَبْعُوْنَ ذِرَاعًا فَاسْلُكُوْهُ [ الحاقۃ : ۳۲ ] "Then in a chain whose length is seventy cubits, insert him therein."
{وَ ذُوْقُوْا عَذَابَ الْحَرِيْقِ :} That is, it will be said to them: Taste the punishment of burning.
