فَٱسْتَجَبْنَا لَهُۥ فَكَشَفْنَا مَا بِهِۦ مِن ضُرٍّ ۖ وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ أَهْلَهُۥ وَمِثْلَهُم مَّعَهُمْ رَحْمَةً مِّنْ عِندِنَا وَذِكْرَىٰ لِلْعَـٰبِدِينَ ﴿84﴾
So We answered his call, and We removed the distress that was on him, and We restored his family to him (that he had lost) and the like thereof along with them as a mercy from Ourselves and a Reminder for all those who worship Us.
فَٱسْتَجَبْنَا fa-is'tajabnā So We responded
لَهُۥ lahu to him
فَكَشَفْنَا fakashafnā and We removed
مَا what
بِهِۦ bihi (was) on him
مِن min of
ضُرٍّۢ ۖ ḍurrin (the) adversity
وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ waātaynāhu And We gave him
أَهْلَهُۥ ahlahu his family
وَمِثْلَهُم wamith'lahum and (the) like thereof
مَّعَهُمْ maʿahum with them
رَحْمَةًۭ raḥmatan (as) Mercy
مِّنْ min from Ourselves
عِندِنَا ʿindinā from Ourselves
وَذِكْرَىٰ wadhik'rā and a reminder
لِلْعَـٰبِدِينَ lil'ʿābidīna for the worshippers

84. 1. In the Noble Quran, Prophet Ayyub (peace be upon him) is called patient, (ۭاِنَّا وَجَدْنٰهُ صَابِرًا ۭ نِعْمَ الْعَبْدُ ۭ اِنَّهٗٓ اَوَّابٌ) 38. Saad:44). This means that he was subjected to severe trials in which he never let go of gratitude and patience. There is no authentic detail available about what these trials and sufferings were; however, from the style of the Quran, it appears that Allah Almighty had blessed him with worldly wealth and children, etc. As a test, Allah Almighty took away all these blessings from him, so much so that he was deprived of physical health and surrounded by diseases. It is said that after 8 years of trials, he prayed in the court of Allah, Allah accepted his prayer and granted him health along with wealth and children, double than before. Some details of this are found in a narration of Sahih Ibn Hibban (may Allah be pleased with him), which Prophet Ayyub (peace be upon him) never expressed. However, supplication is not contrary to patience. That is why Allah Almighty used the words 'We accepted it' for this.

So We answered his prayer and removed the illness that had afflicted him. And We not only restored his family to him, but gave him as many more [74] along with them—a special mercy from Us, and a lesson for the devoted worshippers [75].

The Appearance of the Spring and Restoration of Health by Bathing in It:

When Prophet Ayyub ؑ was completely successful in this test of patience, the mercy of the Lord surged forth. This very supplication, made without demand, was accepted in such a way that Allah caused a spring to flow at that very place. He was simply commanded to strike the ground with his foot. As soon as he struck his foot, the spring gushed forth. Its water was sweet, cool, healing, and a cure for skin diseases. He used to bathe in it and continued to use its water. His illness was a skin disease, which was soon removed by bathing in this way and by the continuous use of the water. And whatever wealth and children Allah had previously granted him, He now granted him double that. And this was the mercy of Allah and the fruit of his patience.

[75] One aspect of worship is that a person should continue to give thanks to Allah in times of prosperity and show patience and steadfastness in times of hardship and poverty. Just as Prophet Ayyub ؑ set an example. The lesson in this sentence is that whoever becomes a worshipper of Allah in this way, Allah bestows upon him even greater rewards than before, just as He did for Ayyub ؑ.
