(Ayah 13){ لَاتَرْكُضُوْاوَارْجِعُوْۤااِلٰىمَاۤاُتْرِفْتُمْفِيْهِ …:} That is, their condition is such that when they are told, or the angels say to them, "Do not run away, but return to those places where you were given prosperity and to your homes, so that you may be questioned (about the reality of the situation) as to how you valued all those blessings." One meaning is that return again to those same gatherings, so that, as before, your servants and attendants may stand before you with folded hands and ask, "Sir, what is your command?" A third meaning is, do not run away, but sit again in your same councils and assemblies, so that people may come to you to seek solutions to their problems and the needy may come to you to ask, whom you used to give for pride and show. In any case, all this is being said to scold them and to mock them.

13. 1. This was either called out by the angels or said by the believers in a mocking manner. 13. 2. That is, the blessings and comforts you had, which became the cause of your disbelief and rebellion, and those houses in which you lived and upon whose beauty and durability you used to take pride—return to them. 13. 3. And after the punishment, your condition will be inquired about: what happened to you, how did it happen, and why did it happen? This question is in the sense of sarcasm and mockery, otherwise, after being seized by destruction, they would not be in any position to answer.

13. (We said:) "Do not flee, but return to your homes and to your luxuries in which you delighted, so that you may be questioned (about the reality of the situation) [12]."
[12] That is, why are you not now sitting on the seats of your gatherings? So that people may present their requests before you, have their issues resolved, seek your advice, and ask for your opinion. Where are you going now? Sit here, and if nothing else, at least tell those who come after you how the punishment of Allah came upon you and what kinds of circumstances you faced.
