Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 60){ فَتَوَلّٰى فِرْعَوْنُ فَجَمَعَ … :} That is, Pharaoh dismissed the assembly and then, after consulting with his chiefs and with everyone's agreement, he made every effort to gather expert magicians from every region of the kingdom, promising them rewards and royal favor to prepare them for the contest. On the other hand, he encouraged the general public to come and watch, so that as many people as possible would gather to witness the contest. Then Pharaoh, taking everything along, came to the field of contest. See Surah Al-A'raf (109, 1109), Ash-Shu'ara (34, 35), and An-Nazi'at (22, 23).

So Pharaoh turned away and gathered all his tricks [42], then came for the contest.

[42] This contest was not merely a matter of victory or defeat for the magicians, but in reality, it was a matter of whether Pharaoh would remain in power or not. Therefore, he made every possible effort to gather all the magicians from across the country, and on the appointed day, Pharaoh arrived at the field of contest on time along with those magicians and his entire army. In the same way, our master Musa (peace be upon him) and his brother also arrived on time.
