Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 55){ مِنْهَا خَلَقْنٰكُمْ وَ فِيْهَا نُعِيْدُكُمْ … :} That is, the figure of your father Adam (peace be upon him) was made from clay, and your food and all necessities also come out of the earth. This is the first stage, which continues until death. The second stage is that after death you will return to the earth again; whether a person is buried in a grave or not, directly or indirectly, his components will go into the earth. In the third stage, on the Day of Resurrection, these same components will be revived by breathing the soul into them again. It is said: «{ قَالَ فِيْهَا تَحْيَوْنَ وَ فِيْهَا تَمُوْتُوْنَ وَ مِنْهَا تُخْرَجُوْنَ [ الأعراف : ۲۵ ] "He said: In it you will live, and in it you will die, and from it you will be brought forth." In some narrations, it is mentioned to recite {’’ مِنْهَا خَلَقْنٰكُمْ ‘‘} when throwing the first handful of soil at the time of burial, {’’ وَ فِيْهَا نُعِيْدُكُمْ ‘‘} when throwing the second handful, and {’’ وَ مِنْهَا نُخْرِجُكُمْ تَارَةً اُخْرٰى ‘‘} when throwing the third handful, but those narrations are weak. However, throwing three handfuls of soil without reciting any verse is Sunnah. It is narrated from Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him): [ أَنَّ رَسُوْلَ اللّٰهِ صَلَّی اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلّٰی عَلٰی جِنَازَةٍ ثُمَّ أَتٰی قَبْرَ الْمَيِّتِ فَحَثٰی عَلَيْهِ مِنْ قِبَلِ رَأْسِهٖ ثَلاَثًا ] [ ابن ماجہ، الجنائز، باب ما جاء في حثو التراب في القبر: ۱۵۶۵، صحیح ] "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) offered the funeral prayer over a deceased person, then came to the grave of the deceased and threw three handfuls (of soil) from the side of his head."

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

55. 1. In some narrations, it is reported from the Prophet ﷺ to recite this verse while throwing three handfuls (or clods) of soil after burial, but these narrations are weak in terms of chain of transmission. However, the narration about throwing three handfuls of soil without the verse, which is in Ibn Majah, is Sahih, therefore, after burial, throwing soil three times with both hands has been considered recommended by the scholars. See Kitab al-Jana'iz, page 152.

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

55. From this earth We created you, and into it We shall return you, and from it We shall bring you forth again [37].

Man’s Permanent Connection to the Earth:

In this verse, three states that befall man are mentioned, and all three are related to the earth. Allah created man from the earth or clay and made all his needs dependent on it. From birth to death, this is one stage. The second stage is from death until the Day of Resurrection. In this stage, man is buried in this earth, and most people’s bodies become dust and mix with the soil. And it is mentioned in a hadith that the bodies of the Prophets are not consumed by the earth. This does not mean that the earth consumes everyone else’s bodies, but rather that the bodies of the Prophets are certainly not consumed, and there may be some other people whose bodies remain preserved in their graves. The third stage is resurrection after death, that is, when Allah will gather the particles mixed in the soil and resurrect everyone, presenting them before Himself. Thus, the first two stages serve as evidence for the third stage.
