قَالَ رَبُّنَا ٱلَّذِىٓ أَعْطَىٰ كُلَّ شَىْءٍ خَلْقَهُۥ ثُمَّ هَدَىٰ ﴿50﴾
[Mûsâ (Moses)] said: "Our Lord is He Who gave to each thing its form and nature, then guided it aright."
قَالَ qāla He said
رَبُّنَا rabbunā Our Lord
ٱلَّذِىٓ alladhī (is) the One Who
أَعْطَىٰ aʿṭā gave
كُلَّ kulla (to) every
شَىْءٍ shayin thing
خَلْقَهُۥ khalqahu its form
ثُمَّ thumma then
هَدَىٰ hadā He guided (it)

(Ayah 50) ➊ {قَالَ رَبُّنَا الَّذِيْۤ اَعْطٰى كُلَّ شَيْءٍ خَلْقَهٗ :} That is, not only has He created everything, but while creating everything, He has also granted it a form and appearance according to its need and condition. Every living being that walks, flies, or swims, every tree, mountain, and river, and the earth and sky—in short, every creature—has been given such a form and appearance that no one else can make it, nor can anyone find any flaw or defect in it, nor can anyone present a better form. { ثُمَّ هَدٰى :} That is, after granting it a form and appearance according to its condition, He also showed it the way to live and to use its structure. Thus, a bird’s chick starts pecking at grain as soon as it hatches from the egg, a duckling starts swimming, while the offspring of animals and humans begin to suckle as soon as they are born. If Allah had not taught them, who could have taught them? In short, everything in this universe is doing whatever it does only by His guidance and instruction. The meaning of what Musa (peace be upon him) said is that our Lord is not what you claim, but rather He is the Exalted and Supreme Allah, who possesses these and these attributes. 50. 1. For example, the form and appearance that was suitable for humans, He granted to them, and that which was suitable for animals, He granted to the animals. The meaning of 'showed the way' is that every creature was made to understand the way of living, eating, drinking, and dwelling according to its natural needs. According to this, every creature provides the necessities of life and spends the days of its borrowed life.

Pharaoh’s First Question to Sayyiduna Musa: Who is Your Lord?

When both brothers reached Pharaoh and presented the invitation in the manner taught by Allah Almighty, the first question or objection Pharaoh raised was related to his own sensitive point. He himself claimed divinity and had convinced the people that he alone was their lord. Pharaoh undoubtedly believed that Allah created the heavens, the earth, and all that exists. However, he denied the political and legal sovereignty of Allah Almighty. He thought that there was no higher authority above him whose command would be binding upon him and whose orders he was obliged to obey. Therefore, he immediately asked, “So who is this Lord of yours?” Since Pharaoh acknowledged the aspect of lordship related to creation, Sayyiduna Musaؑ gave him an answer related to lordship. And that answer was that my Lord is the One who granted every thing its particular form in the best manner. Then He also explained its function to it and placed it within its nature. When He created the fish, He taught it how to swim in water; when He created birds, He taught them how to fly. When a child is born, He immediately teaches it to cling to its mother’s breast and how to drink milk. If Allah Almighty had not guided these things in such a way, no one else could have taught them. It should be noted that here Allah Almighty did not say “created everything” (خلق کل شئی), but rather said “gave everything its form” (اعطی کل شئی خلقہ). This means that Allah Almighty, at the time of the creation of each thing, granted it a particular form and appearance, and that was most suitable for it. For example, wherever Allah Almighty placed the eyes, nose, ears, or other organs on the human body, those locations were the most appropriate for those organs. If they had been placed elsewhere, the person would have become unsightly and its appearance would have been distorted.
