Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 135) ➊ The tanween of { قُلْ كُلٌّ مُّتَرَبِّصٌ فَتَرَبَّصُوْا … : ’’ كُلٌّ ‘‘} has come in place of its omitted genitive (mudaf ilayh), that is, {’’كُلُّ وَاحِدٍ‘‘} means "each one." The meaning is that if the clear proofs present in the previous scriptures are not sufficient for you to believe in the Prophet (peace be upon him), and you insist on seeing a sign of your own choosing in order to believe, then keep waiting for a sign to believe. We are waiting for Allah’s seizure in this world and His punishment in the Hereafter for you. Soon you will know who are the people of the straight path and who is the one who has attained guidance. This expresses the certainty of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) in being on the right path, because only a person who has complete certainty in being right can say this with such confidence.

➋ If {فَتَرَبَّصُوْا :} comes with an indicator (qarinah), then it is for continuity. Here, the indicator is that the waiting is to continue until that which is being awaited comes into existence. This command of waiting is for warning and threatening. This is called mutarakah, meaning, "We have left you in your state of waiting," because we are certain of your evil end. For similar verses, see Surah As-Sajdah (30) and Surah At-Tawbah (52). History bears witness that very soon the disbelievers came to know that the Muslims were on the right path. On the day of Badr, those who did not accept Islam, such as Abu Jahl and other leaders of disbelief and polytheism who were destroyed, and those who became Muslims, such as Abu Sufyan and Khalid bin Walid (may Allah be pleased with them both), and all those who saw with their own eyes the dominance of Islam over the Arabian Peninsula, Syria, Iraq, Iran, Egypt, and then over the east and west of the earth, and thus the word of Allah was fulfilled. Included in "soon you will know" is also that very soon, on the Day of Resurrection, you will attain the knowledge of certainty and the eye of certainty regarding this matter. Because {’’كُلُّ آتٍ قَرِيْبٌ‘‘} which means, "everything that is to come is near."

135. 1 That is, both Muslims and disbelievers are waiting to see whether disbelief prevails or Islam prevails.

135. Say to them, "Each of us is waiting for the outcome, so you too wait. Soon [103] you will know who is on the straight path and who is rightly guided."

[103] That is, now both you and we, in fact the whole of Arabia, are waiting to see which way the camel sits. Therefore, wait. Soon everyone will know which of us is on the straight path, upon whom the turn of time falls, and who is destroyed.
