And enjoin As-Salât (the prayer) on your family, and be patient in offering them [i.e. the Salât (prayers)]. We ask not of you a provision (i.e. to give Us something: money): We provide for you. And the good end (i.e. Paradise) is for the Muttaqûn (the pious - See V.2:2).

(Ayah 132) ➊ {وَاْمُرْاَهْلَكَبِالصَّلٰوةِ …: ’’ اصْطَبِرْ ‘‘ ’’صَبَرَيَصْبِرُ‘‘} is the imperative form from the verb pattern ifti‘āl; the tā’ has been changed to ṭā’, and the addition of letters is for emphasis, which is why it is translated as “be steadfastly observant.” In these verses, apparently all the commands are addressed to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), but every individual of the ummah is addressed by virtue of following the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: [ مُرُوْاأَوْلَادَكُمْبِالصَّلَاةِوَهُمْأَبْنَاءُسَبْعِسِنِيْنَوَاضْرِبُوْهُمْعَلَيْهَاوَهُمْأَبْنَاءُعَشْرِسِنِيْنَوَفَرِّقُوْابَيْنَهُمْفِيالْمَضَاجِعِ ][ أبوداوٗد، الصلاۃ، باب متٰی یؤمر الغلام بالصلاۃ : ۴۹۵، عن عبد اللہ بن عمرو رضی اللہ عنھما ] “Command your children to pray when they are seven years old, and strike them for it when they are ten years old, and separate their beds.” That is, instead of your family members looking towards the luxuries and comforts of worldly people, you should emphasize prayer to them and yourself be steadfast in it. Because this will connect them and you to Allah Almighty, and will instill in you patience and contentment with lawful provision, no matter how little it may be in quantity, and true richness is in patience and patience and contentment, not in wealth and property.
➋ { لَانَسْـَٔلُكَرِزْقًا …: } Generally, due to earning a livelihood, a person becomes lazy in the worship of Allah Almighty and in prayer, so it is said, Our demand from you is not to earn a livelihood but to worship and pray; We will provide you with sustenance. Living life according to Allah’s commands is called worship; Allah Almighty did not create man to earn a livelihood, but to live according to His commands. If he lives as a servant (slave) of Allah according to His commands, he will never lack provision. It is said: «{ وَمَاخَلَقْتُالْجِنَّوَالْاِنْسَاِلَّالِيَعْبُدُوْنِ (56) مَاۤاُرِيْدُمِنْهُمْمِّنْرِّزْقٍوَّمَاۤاُرِيْدُاَنْيُّطْعِمُوْنِ(57) اِنَّاللّٰهَهُوَالرَّزَّاقُذُوالْقُوَّةِالْمَتِيْنُ}»[ الذاریات : ۵۶ تا ۵۸ ] “And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me. I do not want any provision from them, nor do I want them to feed Me. Indeed, Allah is the Provider, the Possessor of strength, the Firm.” The cure for man’s impatience, stinginess, and greed is guarding and persevering in prayer. See Surah al-Ma‘ārij (19–35). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: [ إِنَّاللّٰهَتَعَالٰیيَقُوْلُيَاابْنَآدَمَ ! تَفَرَّغْلِعِبَادَتِيْأَمْلَأْصَدْرَكَغِنًیوَأَسُدَّفَقْرَكَوَإِلاَّتَفْعَلْمَلَأْتُيَدَيْكَشُغْلاًوَلَمْأَسُدَّفَقْرَكَ][ترمذي، صفۃ القیامۃ، باب أحادیث ابتلینا بالضراء… : ۲۴۶۶، عن أبي ھریرۃ رضی اللہ عنہ ] “Allah Almighty says: O son of Adam! Devote yourself fully to My worship, (and) I will fill your heart with richness and remove your poverty, but if you do not do so, I will fill your hands with preoccupation and will not remove your poverty.”
➌ {وَالْعَاقِبَةُلِلتَّقْوٰى :} That is, even if their days in the world pass with hardship, in the Hereafter everlasting comfort and luxury will be theirs. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: [ مَنْكَانَتِالْآخِرَةُهَمَّهٗجَعَلَاللّٰهُغِنَاهُفِيْقَلْبِهٖوَجَمَعَلَهٗشَمْلَهٗوَأَتَتْهُالدُّنْيَاوَهِيَرَاغِمَةٌوَمَنْكَانَتِالدُّنْيَاهَمَّهٗجَعَلَاللّٰهُفَقْرَهُبَيْنَعَيْنَيْهٖوَفَرَّقَعَلَيْهِشَمْلَهٗوَلَمْيَأْتِهٖمِنَالدُّنْيَاإِلاَّمَاقُدِّرَلَهٗ ][ ترمذي، صفۃ القیامۃ، باب أحادیث ابتلینا بالضراء… : ۲۴۶۵، عن أنس بن مالک رضی اللہ عنہ ] “Whoever’s concern is only the Hereafter, Allah Almighty places richness in his heart and gathers his affairs for him, and the world comes to him humbled. And whoever’s concern is only the world, Allah Almighty places poverty before his eyes and scatters his affairs, and he gets nothing of the world except what is decreed for him.” From this it is known that in both this world and the Hereafter, a good end is only for taqwa (God-consciousness).

132. 1. In this address, the entire Ummah is subordinate to the Prophet ﷺ. That is, it is necessary for a Muslim to be punctual in prayer himself and also to keep urging his family members to perform prayer.

132. And command your family to establish prayer and remain steadfast [98] in it yourself. We do not ask you for provision; rather, We provide [99] for you. And the good end is for those who are mindful [100] of Allah.
[98] It is Necessary to Command the Family to Perform Salah:
That is, in addition to being steadfast in performing prayers yourself, you should also command your family members to be steadfast in them. Then, this should be strictly enforced. This will further strengthen your mission. Although in this verse the address is to youﷺ, the command is general. That is why youﷺ commanded the Muslims that when a child reaches the age of seven, tell him to perform Salah, and if by the age of ten he has not developed the habit of Salah, then make him perform Salah by disciplining him. [ابوداؤد، بحواله مشكوة، كتاب الصلوٰة۔ الفصل الثاني]
[99] In Arabia, it was customary for masters to send their slaves to earn, then they would collect these earnings from them, or a daily or monthly amount would be fixed for the slave according to his ability, that he must at least earn this much for his master, and if he earned more, the surplus would be his own, just as we fix daily or monthly rent or contract for something. Allah Almighty says to youﷺ and to the Muslims that We do not ask you for any provision, even though you are all My servants and slaves. Rather, it is We Who provide for you, and this is Our responsibility. Your task is only to remain engaged in the worship and obedience of Allah Almighty. The provision that is destined for you will surely reach you.
[100] The Outcome of Taqwa is Always Better:
And remember, whoever adopts Taqwa, his outcome will be better in this world as well as in the Hereafter. The improvement of his outcome in this world is mentioned in another verse as follows: when a pious person gets trapped in any difficulty in this world, Allah Almighty surely creates a way out for him. Also, He provides him sustenance from where he could not even imagine. [65: 1، 2]
In addition, one aspect of this is that, for example, if a pious person does business, his reputation is established, and for someone’s reputation to be established is a great favor and blessing from Allah, and in the end, he is the one who remains successful. In short, this sentence is such a universal truth that, from whichever perspective it is experienced, it will always prove to be correct.
