مَّنْ أَعْرَضَ عَنْهُ فَإِنَّهُۥ يَحْمِلُ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ وِزْرًا ﴿100﴾

Whoever turns away from it (this Qur’ân - i.e. does not believe in it, nor acts on its orders), verily, they will bear a heavy burden (of sins) on the Day of Resurrection,

(Ayah 101,100){ مَنْ اَعْرَضَ عَنْهُ … :} Turning away means not believing in this admonition and not acting upon it. The tanween on {’’ وِزْرًا ‘‘} is for magnification and dreadfulness, meaning a great burden, a heavy burden. {’’ حِمْلًا ‘‘} is in the meaning of {’’مَحْمُوْلٌ‘‘}, just as {’’ذِبْحٌ‘‘} is in the meaning of {’’مَذْبُوْحٌ‘‘}, meaning something carried (a burden). {’’ سَآءَ ‘‘} is a verb of censure, whose subject is the ambiguous pronoun {’’هُوَ‘‘}, and whose ambiguity is clarified by {’’ حِمْلًا ‘‘} as a distinguishing word.

Whoever turns away from it will bear a burden of sin [70] on the Day of Resurrection.

[70] Wizr means the burden of sin or a bundle of transgressions. Now, whoever neither comes near the Quran throughout his life nor is willing to accept any of its guidance, inevitably his life will be like an unbridled camel, consisting of disobedience to Allah and sins. Therefore, he will have to bear the unbearable burden of his deeds. In this world, one can only imagine such a burden. But there, this burden will be given a physical form and he will be crushed under its weight.
