Translation by Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan & Dr. Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali
And when they (Jews) meet those who believe (Muslims), they say, "We believe", but when they meet one another in private, they say, "Shall you (Jews) tell them (Muslims) what Allâh has revealed to you [Jews, about the description and the qualities of Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم, that which are written in the Taurât (Torah)], that they (Muslims) may argue with you (Jews) about it before your Lord?" Have you (Jews) then no understanding?

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 76) The moral degradation of the Jews and their lack of fear of Allah had reached such a level that some among them, when meeting with the Muslims, would claim to have faith and, out of hypocrisy and flattery, would even mention to them those signs and prophecies which were present in the Torah and their other books regarding the Last Prophet (peace be upon him). But when they met among themselves, they would reproach one another, saying, "Why do you tell these Muslims those things which Allah has informed only you about? Do you not understand that these Muslims will, on the basis of the information you yourselves have given, establish proof against you before Allah in the Hereafter and argue that, despite knowing and recognizing the Last Prophet, you did not believe in him?"
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan — Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
76. 1. This is an unveiling of the hypocritical behavior of some Jews: they would express faith among the Muslims, but when they met each other, they would reproach one another, saying, "Why do you tell the Muslims such things from your book that clarify the truthfulness of the Arabian Messenger? In this way, you yourselves are giving them an argument that they will present against you in the court of Allah."
Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran — Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani
Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
When they meet those who believe, they say, "We have believed (in Muhammad ﷺ as well)." But when they are alone with one another, they say, "Do you tell them about what Allah has disclosed to you [90], so that they may use it as an argument against you before your Lord? Do you not understand?"
[90] From this verse, it is understood that there was considerable material in the Torah and other scriptures to recognize the Last Prophet ﷺ. These people had already made this known among the people before the arrival of the Last Prophet ﷺ in Madinah, and even after his arrival in Madinah, some of them would mention it and say to them that they too believed in this Prophet. However, when they would go to their own cunning leaders, those leaders would say to them: "Why do you tell the Muslims such things from the Torah that go against your own interests? Do you want the Muslims to establish a proof against you before Allah, that these people did not believe despite having complete knowledge?" You should think before speaking to the Muslims.
