Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 56,55) Most commentators say that those who said this were the seventy men mentioned in Surah Al-A'raf (155), whom Musa (peace be upon him) had chosen for the appointed time set by Allah. When Allah spoke to Musa (peace be upon him), they said, "We will never believe you that Allah spoke to you until we ourselves see Allah with our own eyes." Upon this, they fell unconscious and died due to the earthquake (rajfah) and the thunderbolt (sa'iqah). Then, by the prayer of Musa (peace be upon him), they were brought back to life. Here, it is not correct to interpret "death" as unconsciousness, because here «{ مِنْۢبَعْدِمَوْتِكُمْ }» is clearly mentioned, and in Surah Al-A'raf (155), in the prayer of Musa (peace be upon him): «{ لَوْشِئْتَاَهْلَكْتَهُمْمِّنْقَبْلُوَاِيَّايَ }» (If You had willed, You could have destroyed them and me before this.) is mentioned. It is thus clear that demanding to see Allah as a condition for faith is a great act of insolence. See Surah An-Nisa (153) and Al-Furqan (21).
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan — Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
55. 1. Hazrat Musa (Moses) ؑ took seventy (70) men to Mount Tur for receiving the Torah. When Hazrat Musa ؑ was about to return, they said that unless we see Allah Almighty before us, we are not ready to believe in your word. Upon this, as a reprimand, lightning struck them and they died. Hazrat Musa ؑ became extremely distressed and prayed for their lives, upon which Allah Almighty revived them. The meaning of witnessing the lightning strike is that those upon whom the lightning initially struck were being seen by the latter ones, until all of them passed into the embrace of death.
Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran — Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani
Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
55. And (remember) when you said to Moses, "We will never believe you until we see Allah openly." [71] So the thunderbolt struck you while you were looking on.
[71] These Children of Israel were so ill-natured that they did not even trust the words of Musa (Moses) ؑ. When Musa ؑ returned from Mount Tur with the Torah and presented the Book before his people, they said, "How can we know that this Book is truly from Allah, and that Allah actually spoke to you?" Musa ؑ was greatly distressed by this situation, so Allah commanded him to take seventy men with him to Mount Tur. Accordingly, Musa ؑ selected seventy men from his people and took them with him to Mount Tur so that they could hear the Divine speech with their own conscious senses. Then, when they heard the Divine speech, they said, "Musa, we do not trust what we hear from behind a veil, and we will not believe you until we see Allah clearly with our own eyes."
The Death and Resurrection of the Selected Seventy Men:
Now, it is obvious that their demand was impossible to fulfill and based on extreme ignorance. When even Musa ؑ himself could not bear the manifestation of Allah and fell unconscious, and the mountain was shattered to pieces, then who were they to withstand it? At their demand, a thunderbolt struck them—perhaps this too was a form of Allah's manifestation—and in an instant, it incinerated them.
