Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 268) ➊ { اَلْفَحْشَآءُ : } Any statement or action that contains a great evil. (Raghib) For example, adultery, the act of the people of Lot, etc. Here, a very disgraceful level of miserliness is meant. ➋ In the previous verse, encouragement was given to spend good wealth, and now here, caution is being advised against the whisperings of Satan. (Razi) ➌ { اَلشَّيْطٰنُيَعِدُكُمُالْفَقْرَ :} That is, Satan keeps creating doubts and whisperings in the human heart that if you spend in good deeds, you will become poor, and {”فَحْشَاءُ“} that is, he encourages and incites disgraceful miserliness. From { ”فَحْشَاءُ“ }, acts of shamelessness and immorality can also be meant, that Satan encourages spending wealth in them, but in contrast, Allah’s promise is that charity and alms will be an expiation for your sins, you will receive many times more reward for it, and there will be blessing in your wealth. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Every day when the servants wake up in the morning, two angels descend. One of them prays, ‘O Allah! Give a replacement to the one who spends,’ and the other curses, ‘O Allah! Destroy the wealth of the one who withholds.’” [بخاري، الزكاة، باب قول الله تعالٰي : « فأما من أعطي…» : ۱۴۴۲، عن أبي هريرة رضي الله عنه] And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: [ مَانَقَصَتْصَدَقَةٌمِنْمَّالٍ ] “Charity does not decrease wealth in the least.” [مسلم، البروالصلۃ، باب استحباب العفو والتواضع : ۲۵۸۸، عن أبی ہریرۃ رضی اللہ عنہ ]
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan — Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
268. 1. That is, when it comes to spending wealth in good deeds, Satan frightens you that you will become poor and destitute, but when it comes to spending on evil deeds, he does not let such fears come near; rather, he presents those evil deeds in such an adorned and attractive way that a person spends even large amounts without hesitation. It has been observed that if someone comes to collect donations for a mosque, madrasa, or any other good cause, the wealthy person checks and rechecks his accounts repeatedly even for a hundred or two hundred, and often sends the collector back and forth several times. But the same person, when caught in the traps of cinema, alcohol, immorality, or litigation, spends his wealth recklessly and does not show any kind of hesitation or reluctance.
Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran — Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani
Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
268. Satan threatens you with poverty and commands you to indecency, while Allah gives you hope of forgiveness [384] from Himself and bounty. And Allah is All-Encompassing, All-Knowing.
[384] Considering Needs at the Time of Charity is a Satanic Whisper: It is understood that if, at the time of giving charity, thoughts of need, other necessities, poverty, or any evil matter come to one’s heart, then this is a satanic whisper. One cannot say that “We have never even seen the form of Satan, let alone accept his command.” And if someone has the thought that by this (charity) sins will be forgiven and there will be growth and blessing in wealth, then understand that this is an inspiration from Allah. Accordingly, in another place Allah the Exalted has said: ﴿ وَمَآاَنْفَقْتُمْمِّنْشَيْءٍفَهُوَيُخْلِفُهٗ ۚ وَهُوَخَيْرُالرّٰزِقِيْنَ﴾[34: 39] That is, whatever you spend in the way of Allah, Allah will grant you its replacement. Because Allah is the best of providers. And the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Every morning two angels descend. One of them prays in this way: “O Allah, give more to the one who spends,” and the other curses in this way: “O Allah, destroy the one who withholds.” [بخاري، كتاب الزكوٰة، باب قول اللّٰه عز و جل فأما من اعطي واتقي و صدق بالحسنيٰ۔۔۔ الخ ]
