Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 244) {وَ قَاتِلُوْا فِيْ سَبِيْلِ اللّٰهِ:} Hafiz Ibn Kathir (may Allah have mercy on him) said, just as saving one's life does not escape destiny, similarly, fleeing from and avoiding jihad does not bring death closer or farther; rather, the decree of lifespan and provision has already been decided, and there can be no increase or decrease in it. As Allah the Exalted has said: «اَلَّذِيْنَ قَالُوْا لِاِخْوَانِهِمْ …» [ آل عمران : ۱۶۸ ] and He said: «اَيْنَ مَا تَكُوْنُوْا يُدْرِكْكُّمُ الْمَوْتُ وَ لَوْ كُنْتُمْ فِيْ بُرُوْجٍ مُّشَيَّدَةٍ» [النساء : ۷۸ ] "Wherever you may be, death will overtake you, even if you are in fortified towers."

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

The exegesis of this verse has been done along with the previous verse.

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

244. And fight in the way of Allah [341] (that is, do not fear death), and know that Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.

Not Even Thinking of Jihad is a Sign of Hypocrisy:

In this verse, encouragement is being given not to fear death and to strive in the path of Allah. The meaning of the previous verse was that life and death are solely in the hands of Allah; if He wills, He can save the one who goes out for jihad from the jaws of death, and if He wills, He can cause someone to die while sitting at home, or He can make the one who flees from death die on the way, and if He wills, He can bring the dead back to life anew. Life and death are only in His control. Therefore, you should perform jihad while trusting in Allah. Thus, Hazrat Abu Hurairah says that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Whoever has never performed jihad in his lifetime, nor has the thought of performing jihad ever occurred in his heart, dies the death of a hypocrite.
