Ask the Children of Israel how many clear Ayât (proofs, evidence, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) We gave them. And whoever changes Allâh’s Favour after it had come to him, [e.g. renounces the Religion of Allâh (Islâm) and accepts Kufr (disbelief)] then surely, Allâh is Severe in punishment.

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 211) Allah Almighty granted many miracles to the previous nations’ prophets, whether upon their request or without it, but when they did not believe even after witnessing those miracles, various punishments befell them, such as the people of Thamud, the people of Pharaoh, and the Children of Israel. Now, when the demand for Allah Almighty and the angels to descend became excessive, the disbelievers of Arabia are being told to ask the Children of Israel how many clear miracles We showed them, such as the staff of Moses, the shining hand, the storm, the locusts, the parting of the sea, the cloud’s shade in the desert, the gushing forth of twelve springs, the descent of manna and quails, etc. Did they benefit from these blessings in a way that you would? Then the result of ingratitude for blessings is only punishment. It is said: «وَ مَا مَنَعَنَاۤ اَنْ نُّرْسِلَ بِالْاٰيٰتِ اِلَّاۤ اَنْ كَذَّبَ بِهَا الْاَوَّلُوْنَ» [ بنی إسرائیل : ۵۹ ] “And nothing prevented Us from sending the signs except that the former peoples denied them.”

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

211. 1 For example, the staff of Musa through which We nullified the magicians, made a path through the sea, caused twelve springs to gush forth from the rock, the shade of clouds, the descent of manna and quails, etc., which were signs of Allah’s power and proofs of the truthfulness of Our Prophet ﷺ. Yet despite this, they denied the commands of Allah.

211. 2 The meaning of changing the blessing is that instead of faith, they adopted the path of disbelief.

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

211. Ask the Children of Israel how many clear signs [279] We gave them. But whoever changes Allah’s favor after it has come to him, then surely Allah is severe in punishment.

[279]
The Punishment for Ingratitude of Blessings:

And if it is a matter of clear proofs and signs, then ask the Children of Israel: did We give Musa ؑ only a few miracles? So, did all of them believe? And even if they did, did they have complete faith? And how long did they remain steadfast upon it? Then, when these people did not value Allah’s blessings, Allah punished them severely. The Children of Israel were told to be asked because this nation existed close to the time of the Muslims and still exists. So, O Muslims! If you also do not value Allah’s blessings, then your fate could be the same.
