Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
The person mentioned above is the one who sells his religion and faith for the sake of worldly gain, but in this verse, the person is described who sacrifices not only his wealth but even his life to attain the pleasure of Allah. Allah Almighty said: «اِنَّاللّٰهَاشْتَرٰىمِنَالْمُؤْمِنِيْنَاَنْفُسَهُمْوَاَمْوَالَهُمْ»[ التوبۃ : ۱۱۱ ] "Indeed, Allah has purchased from the believers their lives and their wealth." The foremost recipients of this verse are the Muhajir Sahabah who put their lives at risk and left their properties in Makkah to migrate to Madinah, and the Ansar Sahabah who helped them with their lives and wealth. In {”بِالْعِبَادِ “}, the definite article "al" is for specification, so it has been translated as "those servants." In some narrations, the reason for the revelation of this verse is attributed to Suhaib (may Allah be pleased with him), who, when stopped by the Quraysh, handed over all his wealth to them and migrated, but in reality, this was the case with all the Sahabah.
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan — Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
27. 1. This verse is said to have been revealed about Hazrat Suhaib (RA) the Roman, that when he intended to migrate, the disbelievers said, "All this wealth has been earned here; we will not let you take it with you." Hazrat Suhaib (RA) handed over all his wealth to them and, taking his faith, presented himself in the service of the Prophet ﷺ. Upon hearing this, the Prophet ﷺ said, "Suhaib has made a profitable trade," and he said this twice (Fath al-Qadeer). However, this verse is also general, which includes all believing, God-fearing people and those who prefer religion and the Hereafter over the world, because in all such verses, the general wording will be considered, not the specific reason for revelation. Thus, Akhnas bin Shuraiq (whose mention was in the previous verse) is an example of bad character, which will apply to every person who possesses such bad character, and Suhaib (RA) is an example of goodness and perfect faith for every person who is adorned with these qualities of goodness and perfection.
Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran — Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani
Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
207. And among the people is one who sells his own self, seeking Allah’s pleasure [275]. And Allah is Most Kind to (such) servants.
[275] The Virtue of Suhaib al-Rumi:
That is, among mankind there are such people who sacrifice everything—life and wealth—in the way of Allah. Thus, Suhaib bin Sinan al-Rumiؓ left his homeland and was coming to Madinah for the purpose of migration when the polytheists caught him on the way and tried to force him to renounce Islam. Suhaibؓ said, "I am ready to give you my house and all my wealth on the condition that you do not obstruct my way and let me go to Madinah." They released him on this condition, and Suhaib al-Rumiؓ reached the service of the Prophetﷺ. This verse was revealed in praise of such sincere believers. [الرحيق المختوم 246] On one occasion, the Messenger of Allahﷺ said to Abu Bakrؓ regarding Suhaibؓ, Bilalؓ, and Salmanؓ: "If you anger them, you have angered your Lord."
