And when it is said to him, "Fear Allâh", he is led by arrogance to (more) crime. So enough for him is Hell, and worst indeed is that place to rest!

206. And when it is said to him, "Fear Allah," his pride [274] drives him to sin. For such a person, Hell is sufficient—and what an evil resting place it is.

[274] That is, his pride or ego only leads him further down the path of arrogance and haughtiness, and the abode of the arrogant is Hell, as is made clear by the following hadiths.

The Fate of the Arrogant:

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said that Paradise and Hell argued before the Lord. Paradise said, "My condition is such that only the weak and humble of the world enter me," and Hell said, "Those who were arrogant in the world are entering me." Allah Almighty said to Paradise, "You are My mercy," and to Hell, "You are My punishment." [بخاري، كتاب التوحيد، باب ماجاء فى قول الله ان رحمة الله قريب من المحسنين] And once the Prophet ﷺ said, "Shall I tell you who are the people of Paradise and who are the people of Hell? Every weak and humble person is a person of Paradise; if he swears by Allah, Allah fulfills it for him. And every stout, ill-tempered, and arrogant person is a person of Hell." [بخاري، كتاب الايمان، باب قول الله تعالىٰ آيت اقسموا بالله جهد ايمانهم]
