Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 172) Before this, all people were commanded to eat lawful and pure things; in this verse, Allah Almighty has specifically commanded the believers to eat and earn lawful and pure sustenance, because without this, no supplication or worship is accepted. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O people! Indeed, Allah is Pure, and He accepts only what is pure. He has commanded the believers with the same thing He commanded His messengers, as He said: «یاَیُّہَاالرُّسُلُکُلُوْامِنَالطَّیِّبَاتِوَاعْمَلُوْاصَالِحًااِنِّیْبِمَاتَعْمَلُوْنَعَلِیْمٌ »[ المؤمنون : ۵۱ ] 'O messengers! Eat from the pure things and do righteous deeds; surely I am well aware of what you do.' And He said: « یٰٓاَیُّھَاالَّذِیْنَاٰمَنُوْاکُلُوْامِنْطَیِّبٰتِمَارَزَقْنٰکُمْ »[ البقرۃ : ۱۷۲ ] 'O you who have believed! Eat from the pure things We have provided for you.' Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned a man who undertakes a long journey, his hair disheveled, covered in dust, raising his hands towards the sky and saying: 'O my Lord! O my Lord!' (while his condition is such that) his food is unlawful, his drink is unlawful, his clothing is unlawful, and he has been nourished with unlawful things—so how can his supplication be accepted?" [ مسلم، الزکوٰۃ، باب قبول الصدقۃ من الکسب الطیب و تربیتہا : ۱۰۱۵، عن أبی ہریرۃ رضی اللہ عنہ ]
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan — Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
172. 1. In this, the believers are commanded to eat all those things which Allah has made lawful, and are emphasized to express gratitude to Allah for it. From this, firstly, it is understood that only those things made lawful by Allah are pure; the things made unlawful are not pure, even if they seem very good to one's self (as, for example, the people of Europe are very fond of pork). Secondly, the animals and things attributed to idols, which the polytheists would make unlawful for themselves (the details of which are in Surah Al-An'am), this act of the polytheists is wrong, and in this way, a lawful thing does not become unlawful. Do not make them unlawful like they do (only those things are unlawful whose details are in the following verse). Thirdly, if you are worshippers of only one Allah, then be diligent in expressing gratitude.
Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran — Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani
Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
172. O you who believe! Eat from the pure things We have provided for you, and give thanks to Allah, if it is Him alone you worship [214].
[214] In verse number 169, the address was to the general public. In this verse, it is to the believers. That is why they are being especially instructed to express gratitude to Allah after eating.
