Verily! In the creation of the heavens and the earth, and in the alternation of night and day, and the ships which sail through the sea with that which is of use to mankind, and the water (rain) which Allâh sends down from the sky and makes the earth alive therewith after its death, and the moving (living) creatures of all kinds that He has scattered therein, and in the veering of winds and clouds which are held between the sky and the earth, are indeed Ayât (proofs, evidence, signs, etc.) for people of understanding.

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah164) ➊ In the previous verse, the oneness of Allah as the only deity (the only One worthy of worship) was mentioned; in this verse, the evidences of His oneness are stated. The Qur’an has mentioned these eight things separately in various places as proof of Allah’s existence and His oneness, but here all of them are gathered together. The reason for specifically mentioning these things in the universe is that even the polytheists themselves acknowledged that in their creation, there is no partner with Allah. (Kabir)

➋ The Qur’anic commentator Amin Shanqiti (may Allah have mercy on him) has stated that here, the details of how the creation of the heavens and the earth are a sign of monotheism are not given; details are found in other places, for example, see Surah Qaf (6 to 8), Surah Mulk (3 to 5, 15), and Surah Luqman (11, 12). Similarly, for details on how the alternation of night and day is a sign of monotheism, see Surah Qasas (71 to 73) and A’raf (54). For the manner in which the clouds are subjected between the heavens and the earth, see Surah A’raf (57) and Surah Nur (43).

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

164. 1. This verse is very comprehensive in that it brings together seven important matters regarding the creation of the universe and its order and management, which are not mentioned together in any other verse: 1. The creation of the heavens and the earth, whose vastness and greatness need no explanation. 2. The alternation of night and day, making the day bright and the night dark so that livelihood can be pursued and rest can be taken. Then the lengthening of the night and shortening of the day, and then vice versa, the lengthening of the day and shortening of the night. 3. The sailing of ships and boats in the sea, through which trade journeys are made and tons of goods for sustenance and comfort are transported from one place to another. 4. Rain, which is extremely necessary for the fertility and growth of the earth. 5. The creation of all kinds of animals, which are used for transportation, agriculture, and even in war, and a large portion of human food is also fulfilled by them. 6. All kinds of winds, both cold and hot, fruitful and barren, eastern and western, and northern and southern, according to human life and their needs. 7. Clouds, which Allah ﷻ causes to rain wherever He wills. Do all these matters not indicate the power of Allah ﷻ and His oneness? Certainly, they do. Is there any partner with Him in this creation and in this order and management? No, certainly not. Then, leaving Him aside, how is it wise to consider others as deities and fulfillers of needs?

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

164. Surely, in the creation of the heavens and the earth, in the alternation of night and day, in the ships that sail the sea with what benefits people, in the water which Allah sends down from the sky—by which He revives the earth after its death and scatters throughout it all kinds of living creatures—in the changing of the winds, and in the clouds made subservient between the sky and the earth, there are indeed many signs for people who use reason [202].

[202]
Eight Proofs of the Oneness of Allah:

In this verse, Allah Almighty has mentioned eight matters for those who reflect, which are clear proofs of the existence of Allah and His unlimited power and authority. For example, creating such a magnificent sky without pillars, and making the earth in such a way that it provides for all the needs of the creatures living upon it. The coming and going of day and night in succession, and the increase and decrease in their durations; ships sailing in the vast, dreadful, and turbulent seas; sending down rain from the sky, by which the dead earth is brought to life; establishing the system of reproduction in every living being and spreading them all over the face of the earth; changing the direction of the winds; and driving the clouds in the heights according to His will. All these are acts that no being other than Allah can accomplish. Then, what are those tasks in which Allah would need other gods or goddesses? After mentioning the above matters, it is also stated that for those who reflect, there are many other such signs in this universe besides these.
