Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 127) {”الْقَوَاعِدَ“} Foundations. Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: That is, the foundations of the House of Allah which existed before this. [ تفسیر عبد الرزاق بسند صحیح ] From this, it is understood that the House of Allah had been constructed before, and now its foundations were being raised anew. In Surah Al-Hajj (26), it is mentioned that Allah Almighty specified the place of the House of Allah for Ibrahim (peace be upon him). See also Surah Al-Imran (96). After this, the House of Allah was constructed several times. In the era of ignorance, when the Ka'bah was destroyed by a flood, the Quraysh rebuilt it, but due to lack of funds, they left a part of it outside, which is called Hatim. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) also used to bring stones for it. According to Ibn Ishaq, at that time his age was 35 years, and then he himself resolved the dispute of the Quraysh regarding the Black Stone and placed it in its position with your blessed hand. In the era of Islam, for the first time, Abdullah bin Zubair (may Allah be pleased with them both) constructed it on the foundations of Ibrahim (peace be upon him), after which, during the caliphate of Abdul Malik, Hajjaj bin Yusuf demolished it and rebuilt it in the same way as it was built in the era of ignorance. After that, various kings continued to repair and adorn this building. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A thin-legged man from among the Abyssinians will destroy the Ka'bah." 127. And when Abraham ؑ and Ishmael ؑ were raising the foundations of the House (the Ka‘bah) [156], they prayed, "Our Lord, accept this from us. Surely, You are the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing."
[156] The Construction of the Ka'bah in Different Eras:
Qastallani (may Allah have mercy on him) said that the Ka'bah was constructed ten times. The first time, it was built by the angels. The second time by Adam (peace be upon him) (his age was a thousand years). The third time by Sheeth (peace be upon him) (the son of Adam), and this construction was destroyed in the flood of Nuh (peace be upon him). The fourth time by Ibrahim (peace be upon him), the fifth time by the people of 'Amaliqah, the sixth time by the tribe of Jurhum, the seventh time by Qusayy bin Kilab (who is the ancestor of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ), the eighth time by the Quraysh (before his Prophethood, when the area of Hatim was left out), the ninth time by Abdullah bin Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) (during his caliphate), and the tenth time by Hajjaj bin Yusuf. And after that, up to this day, Muslims have continued to have control over this area, and many kings have taken an active part in its construction, repair, and expansion, and this process continues to this day. In this regard, the services of the House of Saud are invaluable and worthy of praise.
