The Jews said that the Christians follow nothing (i.e. are not on the right religion); and the Christians said that the Jews follow nothing (i.e. are not on the right religion); though they both recite the Scripture. Like unto their word, said (the pagans) who know not. Allâh will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection about that wherein they have been differing.

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 113) ➊ The mention of the prophethood of Messiah (Isa, peace be upon him) was present in the Torah, and the Jews used to read and know it. Similarly, the mention of the prophethood of Musa (Moses, peace be upon him) and the command to act upon the Torah was present in the Gospel, and the Christians used to read and know it. But, out of prejudice and stubbornness, each said about the other that they are not upon anything at all. Alas! When Muslims were divided into sects, each, even knowing that the other sect’s view is according to the Qur’an and Sunnah, declared it wrong, and even knowing their own sect’s view to be wrong, declared it correct. The result is before everyone.

➋ By {لَا يَعْلَمُوْنَ:} knowledge is meant the knowledge of revelation, and by this is meant the polytheists of Arabia who had no knowledge of divine revelation. Besides them, all those people who are deprived of heavenly guidance are included in this, for example, atheists and idol worshippers, etc. All of them, like the Jews and Christians, declared everyone except themselves to be completely wrong. He (Allah) has stated that now their decision will be made by Allah Almighty on the Day of Resurrection.

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

113. 1 The Jews read the Torah in which there is confirmation of ‘Isa (عليه السلام) from the tongue of Musa (عليه السلام), but despite this, the Jews would declare ‘Isa (عليه السلام) to be a disbeliever. The Christians have the Injil in which there is confirmation that Musa (عليه السلام) and the Torah are from Allah, yet despite this, they declare the Jews to be disbelievers. This, in effect, is highlighting the disbelief and stubbornness of both sects of the People of the Book and their being deluded about themselves.

113. 2 In comparison to the People of the Book, the polytheists of Arabia were unlettered, so they were called unlearned, but even though they were polytheists, like the Jews and Christians, they were also afflicted with the false notion that they were upon the truth. That is why they used to call the Prophet ﷺ a Sabi, meaning irreligious.

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

113. The Jews say, "The Christians have nothing (of the truth)," and the Christians say, "The Jews have nothing (of the truth)," even though they (both) read the Book [131]. Similar statements are made by those who have no knowledge [132]. So Allah will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection concerning that over which they differ [133].

[131]
Jews, Christians, and Polytheists All Take Pride in Their Own Religion:

The Jews read both the Torah and the Gospel, and similarly, the Christians also read both these books. However, the Jews consider the Christians disbelievers because they have made three gods instead of one, and the Christians consider the Jews disbelievers because they did not believe in Hazrat Isa (Jesus) ؑ, even though his glad tidings are present in the Torah.
[132] By this are meant the Arab polytheists who were called "Ummi." Although these people did not believe in the Hereafter, they considered themselves followers of Hazrat Ibrahim (Abraham) ؑ. They performed prayer and fasting according to their own customs, gave charity and alms, performed Hajj, served the pilgrims, and arranged water for them. These people considered others besides themselves to be misguided and irreligious.
[133] That is, on the Day of Resurrection, Allah Almighty will inform everyone of which misguided matters you had included in the religion. Although today, through debates and arguments, no sect is willing to admit its misguidance.
