Translation by Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan & Dr. Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali
Many of the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) wish that if they could turn you away as disbelievers after you have believed, out of envy from their ownselves, even after the truth (that Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم is Allâh’s Messenger) has become manifest unto them. But forgive and overlook, till Allâh brings His Command. Verily, Allâh is Able to do all things.

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 109) ➊ { كَثِيْرٌمِّنْاَهْلِالْكِتٰبِ......:} This includes the People of the Book from the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) as well as all the Jews and Christians of later times, just as in our era, propaganda is being carried out against the beliefs and rulings of Islam in the name of knowledge and research by them, and their utmost effort is that if Muslims do not become Jews or Christians, then at least they should become disillusioned with their own religion. ➋ { حَسَدًامِّنْعِنْدِاَنْفُسِهِمْ......: } Despite recognizing the truth, this desire of theirs is merely due to jealousy, and this jealousy is not because of any religious motivation, but because of the malice and enmity in their hearts. This shows the evil of jealousy: they themselves are deprived of faith and cannot even tolerate seeing this blessing with others. The refusal of Iblis to prostrate, Qabil killing his brother, the brothers of Yusuf oppressing their brother, and the People of the Book denying and being hostile to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) despite recognizing him—all were caused by this jealousy. ➌ {فَاعْفُوْاوَاصْفَحُوْا:} That is, until Allah commands you to fight them, act with forgiveness and forbearance, and do not lose control because of their petty attacks and jealousy and malice. Then, when the command for fighting came, Banu Nadir and Banu Qaynuqa were exiled, and Banu Qurayza were killed.
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan — Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
The explanation of this verse has been given along with the previous verse.
Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran — Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani
Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
Many among the People of the Book wish to turn you back to disbelief after you have believed, out of envy from themselves, even after the truth has become clear to them. (O Muslims!) Forgive [127] and overlook until Allah brings His command [128]. Surely, Allah is capable of all things.
[127] The reason for the Jews’ envy and hostility has already been mentioned above. It is because they wish, through various means and excuses, to turn the Muslims away from Islam and thereby weaken the strength of the Muslims. Therefore, O Muslims! You should fully understand the reality of their inner enmity and malice, and do not become provoked by their reactions, nor get entangled in debates and arguments with them, nor waste your time. Rather, disregard them and leave them to their own state, and with patience, observe what Allah decides regarding them. And Allah will certainly give them their full punishment, for He has power over everything.
[128] The punishment for the mischief of the Jews: Allah’s command was that they should be fought against. Then, some of them (Banu Nadir) were exiled in utter humiliation and later forced to pay jizyah, and some others (Banu Qurayzah) were imprisoned and then killed, and their women and children were made slaves.
