قَالَ كَذَٰلِكَ قَالَ رَبُّكَ هُوَ عَلَىَّ هَيِّنٌ وَقَدْ خَلَقْتُكَ مِن قَبْلُ وَلَمْ تَكُ شَيْـًٔا ﴿9﴾

Translation by Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan & Dr. Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali

He said: "So (it will be). Your Lord says: It is easy for Me. Certainly I have created you before, when you had been nothing!"

(Ayah 9){ قَالَ كَذٰلِكَ … :} That is, in the same way, despite your old age and the barrenness of your same wife, you will have a son, because the One who created you when you were nothing at all, for Him this task is very easy.

9. 1. The angels said, in order to remove the astonishment of Hazrat Zakariya that Allah has decided to grant you a son, and according to this, you will certainly receive a son, and this is absolutely not a difficult task for Allah because when He can bring you from non-existence into existence, then He can also grant you a son apart from apparent means.

He (Allah) said, "So it will be. Your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me.' Indeed, I created you [11] before, when you were nothing."

[11] Here, "I created you" may refer to Sayyiduna Zakariyya (peace be upon him) or Sayyiduna Adam (peace be upon him). In both cases, this incident expresses even more the astonishing and perfect power of Allah Almighty. Furthermore, in this case, the means (i.e., Sayyiduna Zakariyya and his wife) are present. For Allah, it is not difficult at all to revive or restore their lost abilities.
