Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 55) ➊ {وَ كَانَ يَاْمُرُ اَهْلَهٗ بِالصَّلٰوةِ وَ الزَّكٰوةِ :} The command to adhere to the practice of Ismail (peace be upon him) was given to our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and through him, to us as well. Thus, it is said: «{ وَ اْمُرْ اَهْلَكَ بِالصَّلٰوةِ وَ اصْطَبِرْ عَلَيْهَا لَا نَسْـَٔلُكَ رِزْقًا نَحْنُ نَرْزُقُكَ وَ الْعَاقِبَةُ لِلتَّقْوٰى [ طٰہٰ : ۱۳۲ ] "And enjoin prayer upon your family and be steadfast therein. We do not ask you for provision; We provide for you, and the [best] outcome is for [those of] righteousness." In the same way, Allah Almighty has commanded the believers to save themselves and their families from the Fire. See Surah At-Tahrim (6).

{وَ كَانَ عِنْدَ رَبِّهٖ مَرْضِيًّا:} The foremost cause of being favored by the Lord Almighty is that the Pure Being Himself selects someone, as He said: «{ اَللّٰهُ يَصْطَفِيْ مِنَ الْمَلٰٓىِٕكَةِ رُسُلًا وَّ مِنَ النَّاسِ } » [ الحج : ۷۵ ] "Allah chooses messengers from among the angels and from among the people." And He said: «{ اَللّٰهُ يَجْتَبِيْۤ اِلَيْهِ مَنْ يَّشَآءُ وَ يَهْدِيْۤ اِلَيْهِ مَنْ يُّنِيْبُ [ الشورٰی : ۱۳ ] "Allah selects for Himself whom He wills and guides to Himself whoever turns back [to Him]." Then, the means of being favored by Allah Almighty ({مَرْضِيًّا}) is, according to the statement of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), a servant's fulfillment of obligations and abundance in voluntary acts, due to which Allah Almighty begins to love him. [ دیکھیے بخاري، الرقاق، باب التواضع : ۶۵۰۲، عن أبي ھریرۃ رضی اللہ عنہ ] And it is narrated from Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: [ إِذَا أَحَبَّ اللّٰهُ الْعَبْدَ نَادَی جِبْرِيْلَ إِنَّ اللّٰهَ يُحِبُّ فُلاَنًا فَأَحْبِبْهُ فَيُحِبُّهُ جِبْرِيْلُ فَيُنَادِيْ جِبْرِيْلُ فِيْ أَهْلِ السَّمَاءِ إِنَّ اللّٰهَ يُحِبُّ فُلَانًا فَأَحِبُّوْهُ فَيُحِبُّهُ أَهْلُ السَّمَاءِ ثُمَّ يُوْضَعُ لَهٗ الْقَبُوْلُ فِي الْاَرْضِ ] [ بخاري، بدء الخلق، باب ذکر الملائکۃ صلوات اللّٰہ علیھم : ۳۲۰۹ ] "When Allah loves a servant, He calls Jibreel (peace be upon him) and says: 'Allah loves so-and-so, so you should love him too.' Then Jibreel loves him, then Jibreel announces among the inhabitants of the heavens: 'Allah loves so-and-so, so you should love him too.' So the inhabitants of the heavens love him, then acceptance is placed for him on the earth." The true embodiment of {’’ مَرْضِيًّا ‘‘} is such a person.

Reform Should Begin at Home:

From this verse, two things are understood: first, that the beginning of reform and the call to religion should start with one's own household after oneself, and then gradually its circle should be expanded. This has been the practice of all the prophets and the righteous predecessors. Second, that prayer and zakat are such important pillars of Islam that their command has been present in the laws of all the prophets.
