Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 28) ➊ {يٰۤاُخْتَ هٰرُوْنَ مَا كَانَ اَبُوْكِ …:} The name of Maryam’s (peace be upon her) brother was Harun, who was renowned for his piety and nobility, meaning: the sister of such a righteous brother, the daughter of such a father who was in no way evil, and the daughter of such a mother in whom there was no trait of immorality—so what have you done? In these words, they were implicitly accusing Maryam (peace be upon her) of wrongdoing. The meaning of “in no way evil” and “trait of immorality” is clarified by the indefiniteness of {’’ إِمْرَاَ سَوْءٍ ‘‘} and {’’ بَغِيًّا ‘‘}, which indicates generality.

➋ The great prophet Musa’s (peace be upon him) brother was also named Harun, and he too was a prophet. Some People of the Book misunderstood the Harun mentioned in this verse as the brother of Musa (peace be upon him) and objected: how could Maryam (peace be upon her) be the sister of Harun (peace be upon him), when there is such a long period between them? The scholars of Islam have given various answers to this, such as: the sister of Harun (peace be upon him) means a woman as pious and righteous as Harun (peace be upon him), etc. But after the statement of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), all those answers are mere contrivances. Its summary is that the Harun mentioned in this verse was the brother of Maryam (peace be upon her). It is a coincidence that the father of Musa and Harun (peace be upon them) was also Imran, and the father of Maryam, the mother of Isa (peace be upon him), and her brother Harun was also Imran. Mughirah bin Shu’bah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent me to Najran, so the people there (the Christians) said: Tell us, you recite {’’ يٰۤاُخْتَ هٰرُوْنَ ‘‘} (O sister of Harun!), but Musa (peace be upon him) was so long before Isa (peace be upon him). I returned and mentioned this to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), so he said: [ أَلاَ أَخْبَرْتَهُمْ أَنَّهُمْ كَانُوْا يُسَمُّوْنَ بِأَنْبِيَائِهِمْ وَالصَّالِحِيْنَ قَبْلَهُمْ ] [ ترمذی، تفسیر القرآن، باب و من سورۃ مریم : ۳۱۵۵۔ مسلم : ۲۱۳۵ ] “Why did you not tell them that they used to name (their children) after the prophets and righteous people who came before them (i.e., the name of Maryam’s brother was Harun, named after Harun, the brother of Musa, peace be upon them)?”

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

28. 1. By Harun, it is possible that it refers to her real or paternal brother. It is also possible that by Harun is meant Harun the Messenger (the brother of Moses, peace be upon him) himself, and as is the custom among Arabs, she was associated with Harun in brotherhood, as it is said, considering her to be like Harun ؑ in piety, purity, and worship, she was called the sister of Harun in resemblance and similarity to him. Examples of this are also present in the Noble Quran (Ibn Kathir).

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
