Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 18){ قَالَتْ اِنِّيْۤ اَعُوْذُ بِالرَّحْمٰنِ مِنْكَ … :} Seeing a perfectly handsome and young man alone, Maryam (peace be upon her) became extremely anxious that perhaps his intention might be evil. Therefore, before taking any defensive action, she sought refuge with that Being whose mercy has no limit, so that He may have mercy on His servant and protect her chastity. At the same time, she instilled the fear of Allah in that man, that if you have even the slightest fear of Allah Almighty, then I seek refuge with the Most Merciful from you. By bringing { ’’ تَقِيًّا ‘‘} in the indefinite form, this meaning is conveyed that if you have any kind of fear of Allah, because the fear of Allah turns a person away from evil.

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. The Dialogue Between Lady Maryam and Jibril:

Seeing this situation, Lady Maryam became extremely frightened, and it was a very delicate moment for her. She herself was young, and before her stood a young and handsome man. She was alone, with no one else present. Seeing the radiant face of the newcomer, she sensed that he must be a pious person. Therefore, invoking Allah, she said, “I seek refuge in the Most Merciful from you,” meaning, from any kind of assault you might commit against me.
