Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 14){ وَبَرًّۢابِوَالِدَيْهِ …:} Children born from desires and ambitions are generally arrogant, rebellious, and disobedient; Yahya (peace be upon him) was not like that, rather he was very kind to his parents. He was neither rebellious nor disobedient to his parents or his Lord. Apparently, {’’ عَصِيًّا ‘‘ ’’عَصَييَعْصِيْ‘‘} is on the pattern of {’’ فَعُوْلٌ ‘‘}, after phonetic modification it became {’’عَصِيًّا‘‘}. It can also be on the pattern of {’’فَعِيْلٌ‘‘}, both patterns are for emphasis. (Shanqiti)

14. 1. That is, he was not disobedient to his parents or to his Lord. This means that if Allah Almighty creates in someone's heart the feeling of compassion and love for parents, and the motivation to obey, serve, and treat them well, then this is His special grace and favor. And the opposite feeling or attitude is the result of being deprived of Allah Almighty's special grace.

And he was dutiful to his parents, and he was neither arrogant nor disobedient [15].
[15] The children born in old age, and especially those children who are obtained after much supplication to Allah, usually do not have good habits and manners due to the excessive pampering of their parents, but there was nothing of this sort in Yahya (peace be upon him). He was extremely obedient to his parents and treated them in the best possible manner. There was not even a trace of disobedience or rebellion in him.
