Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 42) ➊ {قُلْلَّوْكَانَمَعَهٗۤاٰلِهَةٌ … : } That is, they would have gone to fight Him and tried to overthrow His throne, because they too would have considered themselves as deities. And since this has not happened, and you see that Allah alone is running the entire system of the universe purely according to His own will, and this system is functioning with complete harmony and proportion, it is clear that all the living or dead beings you have taken as deities in opposition to Him are all false and baseless. For further explanation of this verse, see Surah Al-Mu’minun (91, 92) and Al-Anbiya (22). ➋ From this verse, it is understood that being on the Throne is only an attribute of the Lord Almighty; no creature can reach the Throne. Those who claim that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) went to the Throne during the Mi’raj, their statement is not correct, because this verse is against it. There is no proven evidence of any personality, other than Allah Almighty, going to the Throne. As for whether the Prophet (peace be upon him) saw Allah Almighty or not, this discussion will come at the beginning of Surah An-Najm. (InshaAllah)
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan — Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
42. 1. One meaning of this is that just as a king invades another king and gains dominance and power, in the same way, other deities would have found a way to overpower Allah. And this has not happened so far, even though centuries have passed while these deities have been worshipped, so this means that there is no deity except Allah, no one has authority except Him. The second meaning is that by now they would have attained nearness to Allah, and these polytheists who hold the belief that through them they attain nearness to Allah, they too would have been brought near to Allah by them.
Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran — Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani
Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
42. Say: If there were other gods with Him, as they claim, then they would surely have sought a way [52] to the Lord of the Throne.
[52] The Inevitable Result of Multiple Gods:
In this verse, the address is to that particular type of polytheists who have invented countless gods and goddesses and consider them to have authority over various things. For example, one is the god of rain, another is the god of fruits, one is the goddess of wealth, another of love, one is the god of death, and another of life. One aspect of refuting this belief is that if these gods were to exercise their respective authorities, the entire system of the universe would be thrown into chaos. For instance, if the god of famine wanted to stop rain and the god of rain wanted to bring rain, then due to their opposition, the system and harmony of the universe could not be maintained. However, the aspect being highlighted here is the second one, which is that every authority-holder always tries to expand his powers further, and in fact, every authority-holder desires to somehow acquire complete power and control. Now, such minor authorities form a united front against the greater authority in order to deprive him of power. As can be seen even with a cursory glance at today’s democratic systems, the political party in power is always opposed by all the opposition parties, who try to pull down the ruling party and deprive it of power, and often they succeed in their objective. This is the very example Allah the Exalted has presented here: that if, in reality, besides Allah there were any other gods or goddesses with authority, they would certainly try to deprive the greater authority—Allah or the Supreme God—of His power and control. And since this has never actually happened, the clear result is that those deities whom you consider to be authorities are not authorities at all, and their existence in this universe is impossible.
