ذُرِّيَّةَ مَنْ حَمَلْنَا مَعَ نُوحٍ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ عَبْدًا شَكُورًا ﴿3﴾

"O offspring of those whom We carried (in the ship) with Nûh (Noah)! Verily, he was a grateful slave."

Before {ذُرِّيَّةَ مَنْ حَمَلْنَا مَعَ نُوْحٍ …:’’ ذُرِّيَّةَ ‘‘}, the vocative particle {’’يَا‘‘} is omitted, “O offspring of those people…!” That is, you are the descendants of those righteous people whom We saved by boarding them with Noah (peace be upon him) in the Ark. The purpose is to encourage the Children of Israel towards faith and righteous deeds, that look at whose descendants you are; it is incumbent upon you to follow in the footsteps of your righteous forefathers, to remain steadfast in the worship of the One Allah, to always be grateful to Him like your father Noah (peace be upon him), and not to consider anyone besides Him as your guardian, helper, or worthy of trust.

3. 1. After the flood of Nuh (علیہ السلام), the human race is from the descendants of those sons of Nuh (علیہ السلام) who boarded the Ark of Nuh (علیہ السلام) and were saved from the flood. Therefore, addressing Bani Israel, it was said that your father, Nuh (علیہ السلام), was a very grateful servant of Allah. You too should adopt the path of gratitude like your father, and do not be ungrateful for the blessing by denying the Messenger whom We have sent, Muhammad ﷺ.

3. These Children of Israel are the descendants of those whom We carried with Noah in the Ark [5]. Indeed, he was a truly grateful servant.

Is Nuh the Second Adam?

From this verse, it is understood that the present human race is not only the descendants of the three sons of Sayyiduna Nuh ؑ—Ham, Sam, and Yafith—as historians state, but rather the descendants of all those who were aboard the ark with Sayyiduna Nuh ؑ.
