إِنَّ ٱلْمُبَذِّرِينَ كَانُوٓا۟ إِخْوَٰنَ ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينِ ۖ وَكَانَ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ لِرَبِّهِۦ كَفُورًا ﴿27﴾
Verily, the spendthrifts are brothers of the Shayâtîn (devils), and the Shaitân (Devil-Satan) is ever ungrateful to his Lord.
إِنَّ inna Indeed
ٱلْمُبَذِّرِينَ l-mubadhirīna the spendthrifts
كَانُوٓا۟ kānū are
إِخْوَٰنَ ikh'wāna brothers
ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينِ ۖ l-shayāṭīni (of) the devils
وَكَانَ wakāna And is
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ l-shayṭānu the Shaitaan
لِرَبِّهِۦ lirabbihi to his Lord
كَفُورًۭا kafūran ungrateful

(Ayah 27){ اِنَّ الْمُبَذِّرِيْنَ۠ كَانُوْۤااِخْوَانَ الشَّيٰطِيْنِ … :} The extravagant have always been declared as brothers of the devils, that is, companions of the devils and like them, and the reason stated is that the devil always shows ingratitude for the blessings and abilities granted by Allah by spending them in the wrong place. Similarly, the person who spends the wealth given by the Owner in disobedience to the Owner is in the same condition. The meaning of "always" in the translation is evident from {’’ كَانُوْۤا‘‘} and {’’ كَانَ ‘‘}. The commentator Tantawi writes: {’’ وَكَانَ الشَّيْطَانُ فِيْ كُلِّ وَقْتٍ وَفِيْ كُلِّ حَالٍ جَحُوْدًا لِنِعَمِ رَبِّهٖ لَا يَشْكُرُهُ عَلَيْهَا ‘‘ }

27. 1. The root of "tabdheer" is "badhar" (seed). Just as when sowing seeds in the ground, it is not considered whether the seed is falling in the right place or here and there, rather the farmer keeps scattering the seeds. Wastefulness is also like this, that a person scatters his wealth like seeds and exceeds the limits set by Shariah in spending. And some say that the meaning of "tabdheer" is to spend in unlawful matters, even if it is a little. In our view, both situations fall under "tabdheer". And this is such an evil act that its perpetrator is likened to Satan, and one should avoid resembling Satan, even if it is in a single trait; it is obligatory for a person. Then, by calling Satan "kafoor" (very ungrateful), further emphasis is placed on avoiding it. If you adopt resemblance to Satan, you too will be declared "kafoor" like him. (Fath al-Qadeer)
