19. 1. The mention of falling in prostration upon their chins is repeated, because the first prostration was for the glorification of Allah and as gratitude, and after hearing the Quran, the awe and tenderness that overcame them, and the extent to which they were affected by its impact and miraculous nature, caused them to fall in prostration once again.

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

And they fall down upon their chins weeping [127], and it increases their humility.

[127] Among the People of the Book, there were also some fair-minded and knowledgeable individuals, some of whom even embraced faith. The Quran has mentioned them with praise at several places, for example, in Surah Al-Imran, verses 113 to 115 and 199, as well as in Surah Al-Ma'idah, verses 82 to 85. Besides this, among the polytheists during the era of the Prophet's mission, there were a few individuals who were strongly averse to polytheism. In addition, they also remained disinclined towards alcohol and other social evils, and due to the reports of previous prophets, they were awaiting the arrival of the Last Prophet. For example, Zaid bin Amr bin Nufail, Waraqah bin Nawfal, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq, Salman al-Farsi, and Abu Dharr al-Ghifari were among such people. Whether such fair-minded people belonged to the polytheistic society of the Age of Ignorance or to the People of the Book, when the verses of the Quran were recited before them, due to its impact, they would fall into prostration weeping. Each verse of the Quran would become a cause for an increase and strengthening of their faith and for humility before Allah. In accordance with such people, the scholars have declared prostration (sajdah) obligatory upon this verse.
