And when those who associated partners with Allâh see their (Allâh’s so-called) partners, they will say: "Our Lord! These are our partners whom we used to invoke besides you." But they will throw back their word at them (and say): "Surely! You indeed are liars!"

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah86){وَاِذَارَاَالَّذِيْنَاَشْرَكُوْا … :} When the disbelievers will see those partners whom they used to call upon for help and associate with Allah, or whose idols or graves they used to worship and prostrate to and circumambulate, as mentioned in Sahih Bukhari (4288) that the polytheists of Makkah had placed idols of Ibrahim and Ismail (peace be upon them) inside the Ka'bah. On the Day of Resurrection, the polytheists will see these elders, so in order to lighten their own crime and to make their self-made patrons and helpers partners in this crime, they will say, "Our Lord! These are the ones whom we used to call upon besides You." All of them will immediately say harshly, "Without any doubt, surely you are liars." The meaning of "immediately" is indicated by the "fa" in {’’ فَاَلْقَوْا ‘‘}. The question arises that the polytheists did call upon them, so why will they call them liars? One answer is that whoever calls upon anyone besides Allah, that is, the patron and helper he has made, does not even know that anyone is calling upon him, nor do they hear their calling, so if they do not call them liars, what else should they call them? See Surah Fatir (13, 14) and Surah Ahqaf (5, 6). Secondly, there is no partner of Allah present anywhere; every polytheist, whether idol-worshipper or grave-worshipper, saint-worshipper or prophet-worshipper, merely calls upon his imaginary self-made fulfillers of needs and removers of difficulties; in reality, they have no existence anywhere, so those prophets and saints and their self-made patrons and helpers will clearly call them liars, saying, "You did not call upon us, but rather upon your own imagination and assumption, which you used to call upon and worship." See Surah Yunus (66) and Surah Najm (23). As for Satan, he really did invite them to shirk, but he will, with utmost shamelessness, completely disown them. See Surah Ibrahim (22).
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan — Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
86. 1. Those who worship false deities will not be lying in their claim. But the partners whom they considered as Allah’s associates will say, “They are liars.” This is either a negation of association: “They are lying in associating us with Allah—can anyone be a partner of Allah?” Or they will declare them liars because they were completely unaware of their worship, just as the Noble Quran has mentioned this matter in several places: “Allah is sufficient as a witness between us and you that we were unaware of your worship of us.” See further Surah Ahqaf (وَمَنْاَضَلُّمِمَّنْيَّدْعُوْامِنْدُوْنِاللّٰهِمَنْلَّايَسْتَجِيْبُلَهٗٓاِلٰىيَوْمِالْقِيٰمَةِوَهُمْعَنْدُعَاۗىِٕهِمْغٰفِلُوْنَ وَاِذَاحُشِرَالنَّاسُكَانُوْالَهُمْاَعْدَاۗءًوَّكَانُوْابِعِبَادَتِهِمْكٰفِرِيْنَ ) 46. 18. Al-Kahf: 52), and other such verses. Another meaning could be that “We never told you to worship us, so you are the liars.” If these partners are stones or trees, Allah will grant them the power of speech. If they are jinn or devils, then there is no problem at all. And if they are Allah’s righteous servants—as many pious, God-fearing, and friends of Allah are called upon for help, offerings are made in their names, and their graves are honored in the same way as a deity is honored with feelings of fear and hope—then Allah will declare them innocent in the plain of resurrection, and those who worshipped them will be thrown into Hell. As is mentioned regarding the question Allah will ask Isa (Jesus) (AS) and his answer at the end of Surah Al-Ma’idah.

86. And when the polytheists see their partners, they will say: "Our Lord! These are our partners whom we used to call upon besides You." But they (the partners) will throw back at them the statement: "Indeed, you are surely liars [87]."
[87] That is, those who were called upon as fulfillers of needs, removers of difficulties, helpers, or supporters, etc. They will not call the polytheists or their callers liars in the sense that they never used to call upon them, but rather in the sense that we ourselves lived our lives as obedient servants of Allah. We never even claimed that we could fulfill people’s needs. And even if you used to do such things, we had no knowledge of it. Then why did you attribute such false and fabricated things to us? Such beliefs of yours are entirely based on falsehood and are baseless.
