لِيَكْفُرُوا۟ بِمَآ ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمْ ۚ فَتَمَتَّعُوا۟ ۖ فَسَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ ﴿55﴾
So (as a result of that) they deny (with ungratefulness) that (Allâh’s Favours) which We have bestowed on them! Then enjoy yourselves (your short stay), but you will come to know (with regrets).
لِيَكْفُرُوا۟ liyakfurū So as to deny
بِمَآ bimā that which
ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمْ ۚ ātaynāhum We have given them
فَتَمَتَّعُوا۟ ۖ fatamattaʿū Then enjoy yourselves
فَسَوْفَ fasawfa soon
تَعْلَمُونَ taʿlamūna you will know

Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

The tafsir of this verse may be read with the following verses.

55. 1. But how ungrateful is man that as soon as hardship (illness, poverty, loss, etc.) is removed, he again begins to associate partners with his Lord.
55. 2. This is just as was stated earlier, (قُلْ تَمَتَّعُوْا فَاِنَّ مَصِيْرَكُمْ اِلَى النَّارِ) 14. Ibrahim:30) Enjoy the benefits of this brief life! Ultimately, your abode is Hell.

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

55. So that they show ingratitude for what Allah has given them, instead of being thankful. Well then, enjoy yourselves for a while [52]; soon you will come to know (the reality).

[52] That is, in times of hardship, it is Allah who helps, and it is He who removes the difficulty. Therefore, what should happen is that they express gratitude to Allah, worship Him alone, and present their pleas before Him. But what actually happens is that once the time of hardship passes, they begin to remember their other deities and completely forget Allah. What could be a greater act of ingratitude than this? However, they are not given immediate punishment in this world, but as soon as they die, they will come to know the true cost of their deeds.
