وَمَا بِكُم مِّن نِّعْمَةٍ فَمِنَ ٱللَّهِ ۖ ثُمَّ إِذَا مَسَّكُمُ ٱلضُّرُّ فَإِلَيْهِ تَجْـَٔرُونَ ﴿53﴾

And whatever of blessings and good things you have, it is from Allâh. Then, when harm touches you, unto Him you cry aloud for help.

(Ayah 53 to 55){ وَ مَا بِكُمْ مِّنْ نِّعْمَةٍ …:’’ نِعْمَةٍ ‘‘} (blessing) being indefinite makes it general, and with {’’ مِنْ ‘‘} the generality is further emphasized that whatever blessing you have, that is, your existence, health, well-being, wealth, in short, every small or big blessing, all are granted by Allah. {’’ تَجْـَٔرُوْنَ ‘‘ ’’جَأَرَ يَجْأَرُ جُؤَارًا‘‘} (fa) to cry out loudly for help, to plead. Originally, this word is used for the cries and shouts of wild animals, as {’’ خُوَارٌ ‘‘} is for the sound of a cow, {’’ ثُغَاءٌ‘‘ } for a goat, {’’ رُغَاءٌ‘‘} for a camel, and {’’عُوَاءٌ‘‘} for a wolf and a dog. {’’ فَتَمَتَّعُوْا ‘‘} So enjoy (for a while), this command is to scold. 53. 1. When the giver of all blessings is only one Allah, then why worship anyone else?
53. 2. This means that the belief in the oneness of Allah is deeply rooted in the depths of the heart and conscience, which emerges when clouds of despair gather from all sides.

53. Whatever blessing you have is from Allah. Then, when hardship touches you, you cry out to Him [51] alone.

[51] The clear testimony that only Allah Almighty is the fulfiller of needs and remover of difficulties exists within your own selves. In times of severe distress, when all kinds of supports seem to break and for a short while your true nature emerges, you call upon Allah alone and begin to plead only before Him. Because the true nature of man does not recognize any being other than Allah as the owner and possessor of authority.
