Then, verily! Your Lord - for those who emigrated after they had been put to trials and thereafter strove hard and fought (for the Cause of Allâh) and were patient, verily, your Lord afterward is, Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

Some Muslims of Makkah, being distressed by the oppression of the disbelievers, outwardly showed some flexibility, or were compelled to utter some improper words, and could not migrate with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). However, afterwards, they fulfilled the requirements of faith as much as possible, that is, they migrated, participated in jihad, and remained firm in their stance. For this, Allah Almighty forgave their mistake.

110. 1 This refers to those Muslims of Makkah who were weak and became targets of the oppression and persecution of the disbelievers due to accepting Islam. Eventually, they were commanded to migrate, so they left behind their relatives, beloved homeland, and all their property and wealth, and went to Abyssinia or Madinah. Then, when the stage of confrontation with the disbelievers came, they fought bravely and took a full part in jihad, and then endured the hardships and pains of this path with patience. After all these things, surely your Lord is Forgiving and Merciful for them, meaning that for attaining the forgiveness and mercy of the Lord, faith and righteous deeds are necessary, just as the aforementioned emigrants presented an excellent example of faith and action, so they became happy with the mercy and forgiveness of the Lord. Allah was pleased with them, and they were pleased with Him.

Then, surely, your Lord—for those who emigrated [114] after being persecuted, then struggled and remained patient—after all these trials, your Lord is certainly Forgiving and Merciful to them.
[114] The Migration to Abyssinia:
In this verse, mention is made of those oppressed Muslims upon whom the Quraysh of Makkah had made life unbearable, and who were eventually forced to migrate to Abyssinia. This migration took place in the 4th or 5th year of Prophethood. Approximately eighty (80) Companions left their homes, relatives, wealth, property, and their beloved homeland, and set out from Makkah to Abyssinia. Then these very people migrated again from Abyssinia to Madinah. After that, they continued to participate in battles alongside the Prophet ﷺ and endured all kinds of hardships with cheerfulness. The minor slips of such people will be forgiven by Allah Almighty.
