Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah95){اِنَّاكَفَيْنٰكَالْمُسْتَهْزِءِيْنَ :} We will deal with them; you continue to fulfill the duty of invitation and preaching without fear or danger. Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) recited this verse of the Quran and said that those who mocked the Prophet (peace be upon him) (the main five) were: Walid bin Mughirah, Aswad bin Abdu Yaghuth Zuhri, Abu Zam’ah Aswad bin Muttalib, Harith bin Aytal Sahmi, and As bin Wa’il. Jibreel (peace be upon him) came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), and he complained to him about those who mocked. The hadith is long; the summary is that Jibreel (peace be upon him) pointed to some part of their bodies, and all five of them died in a terrible way. [ السنن الکبریٰ للبیہقی:8/9، ح : ۱۸۱۸۷ ] As for the rest of the mockers, their fate was described by Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him): [ أَنَّالنَّبِيَّصَلَّیاللّٰهُعَلَيْهِوَسَلَّمَكَانَيُصَلِّيْعِنْدَالْبَيْتِ،وَأَبُوْجَهْلٍوَأَصْحَابٌلَهُجُلُوْسٌ،إذْقَالَبَعْضُهُمْلِبَعْضٍأَيُّكُمْيَجِيْئُبِسَلَیجَزُوْرِبَنِيْفُلاَنٍفَيَضَعُهُعَلٰیظَهْرِمُحَمَّدٍإِذَاسَجَدَ؟فَانْبَعَثَأَشْقَیالْقَوْمِ،فَجَاءَبِهِفَنَظَرَحتّٰیإِذَاسَجَدَالنَّبِيُّصَلَّیاللّٰهُعَلَيْهِوَسَلَّمَوَضَعَهُعَلٰیظَهْرِهِبَيْنَكَتِفَيْهِوَأَنَاأَنْظُرُ،لاَأُغْنِيْشَيْئًا،لَوْكَانَتْلِيْمَنَعَةٌ،قَالَفَجَعَلُوْايَضْحَكُوْنَوَيُحِيْلُبَعْضُهُمْعَلٰیبَعْضٍ،وَرَسُوْلُاللّٰهِصَلَّیاللّٰهُعَلَيْهِوَسَلَّمَسَاجِدٌلاَيَرْفَعُرَأْسَهُحَتّٰیجَاءَتْهُفَاطِمَةُفَطَرَحَتْهُعَنْظَهْرِهِ،فَرَفَعَرَأْسَهُثُمَّقَالَاَللّٰهُمَّعَلَيْكَبِقُرَيْشٍ،ثَلاَثَمَرَّاتٍ،فَشَقَّعَلَيْهِمْإِذْدَعَاعَلَيْهِمْ،قَالَوَكَانُوْايَرَوْنَأنَّالدَّعْوَةَفِيْذٰلِكَالْبَلَدِمُسْتَجَابَةٌ،ثُمَّسَمَّیاَللّٰهُمَّعَلَيْكَبِأَبِيْجَهْلٍ،وَعَلَيْكَبِعُتْبَةَبْنِرَبِيْعَةَ،وَشَيْبَةَبْنِرَبِيْعَةَ،وَالْوَليْدِبْنِعُتْبَةَ،وَأُمَيَّةَبْنِخَلَفٍ،وَعُقَبَةَبْنِأَبِيْمُعَيْطٍ،وَعَدَّالسَّابِعَفَلَمْنَحْفَظْهُ،قَالَفَوَالَّذِيْنَفْسِيْبِيَدِهِلَقَدْرَأَيْتُالَّذِيْنَعَدَّرَسُوْلُاللّٰهِصَلَّیاللّٰهُعَلَيْهِوَسَلَّمَصَرْعَیفِيالْقَلِيْبِقَلِيْبِبَدْرٍ ][ بخاری، الوضوء، باب إذا ألقي علٰی ظہر المصلی قدر…: ۲۴۰ ] Once, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was praying near the Ka’bah, and Abu Jahl and some of his companions were sitting there. They said among themselves, “Who among you will bring the upper membrane from the fetus of the she-camel slaughtered by Banu so-and-so, and when Muhammad (peace be upon him) prostrates, place it on his back?” So the most wretched among them got up and brought that membrane and placed it between his shoulders. I was watching but could do nothing; I wish I had the strength to defend you. Then they all started laughing so much that they fell over each other. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) remained in prostration and did not raise his head until Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) came and removed it from his back. Then he raised his head and said: “O Allah! Seize the Quraysh.” His curse was very hard on them; they believed that supplications are accepted in this city. Then he named them, saying: “O Allah! Seize Abu Jahl, Utbah bin Rabi’ah, Shaybah bin Rabi’ah, Walid bin Utbah, Umayyah bin Khalaf, and Uqbah bin Abi Mu’it.” A seventh was also counted whom we do not remember. Ibn Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “Then, by the One in Whose hand is my soul! I saw all those men whom the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) had named, lying dead in the well of Badr.”
