قَالُوا۟ بَشَّرْنَـٰكَ بِٱلْحَقِّ فَلَا تَكُن مِّنَ ٱلْقَـٰنِطِينَ ﴿55﴾
They (the angels) said: "We give you glad tidings in truth. So be not of the despairing."
قَالُوا۟ qālū They said
بَشَّرْنَـٰكَ basharnāka We give you glad tidings
بِٱلْحَقِّ bil-ḥaqi in truth
فَلَا falā so (do) not
تَكُن takun be

They said: "[29] We bring you good news in truth, so do not be [30] among the despairing."

[29] In Surah Hud and at this place, there is a slight difference. According to Surah Hud, the angels gave this glad tidings to Sayyiduna Ibrahim’s ؑ wife Sarah, who was standing nearby listening to the conversation between the angels and Sayyiduna Ibrahim ؑ. She too expressed amazement at the news of having a child at such an old age, and Sayyiduna Ibrahim ؑ also, out of amazement, asked the angels the same thing: what glad tidings are you giving?
[30] Sayyiduna Ibrahim’s ؑ amazement was not because he considered it impossible or was despairing of Allah’s mercy, but rather because he desired further emphasis through repetition and, accordingly, an increase in his own happiness.
